GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Surety Operations
- Analyzes applicant’s financial statements (personal and/or corporate) to assess applicant’s suitability.
- Calculates financial ratios to determine the financial position of applicants.
- Performs credit checks and research of applicants to determine eligibility.
- Reviews and authorizes issuance of commercial bonds within limits of authority and guidelines
- Negotiates with brokers on the terms and conditions of issuing commercial bonds.
- Determines if risk is acceptable, is acceptable with restrictions, or should be declined based on analysis and evaluation of all information pertinent to the risk. Risks to be declined are usually discussed with a more senior staff member.
- Prepares decline summaries for approval by a more senior staff member if outside of limits of authority or guidelines.
- Reviews new, revised, and/or non-standard bond wordings to ensure compliance with corporate and industry standards.
- Conducts broker and client visitations throughout Saskatchewan and expansion provinces to maintain working relationship in the competitive commercial surety market.
- Supports, provides direction, reviews, and approves the work of staff in less senior positions (including trainees)
- Work on special projects as required.

Broker Experience and Relationship Management
- Consults with and visits brokers and clients to discuss underwriting issues, resolve service matters, build relationships, and become a trusted advisor.
- Develops and maintains working relationships with brokers to generate a flow of profitable business and provides assistance in resolving any service matters.
- Assists with training to staff, brokers, and external parties on surety products and procedures. Prepares and conducts formal presentations.
- Understand the technology brokers use and offers tailored approaches to deliver on the ease of doing business mandate.
- Evaluates broker's portfolios to identify positive or negative trends with respect to quantity and quality of business.
- Works collaboratively with business development reps to market surety products.
- Attends surety industry & insurance broker networking events.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Proficient knowledge of the methods, techniques, and procedures used in technical analysis (procedural, product, financial, research, and statistical) within Surety.
- Proficient knowledge of the coverages, rating procedures, and guidelines in the type of insurance underwritten within Surety.
- Proficient skill in the analysis of financial reports and statements.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
- Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in Business with a major in Accounting or Finance, or defined equivalency.
- Requirement to enroll in and complete one class towards an Associateship in Canadian Surety Bonding (ACSB).

EXPERIENCE
- 1 - 2 years’ experience in Surety Underwriting or Accounting.

Pay Range:$59,976.00 - $75,684.00
