**Position: Children’s Counsellor - Children Who Witness gender-based violence**

**Term: Full-time Permanent**

**Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30-4:30**

**Starting salary: $55,408.00**

**Location: 1980 Ogilvie Rd, Gloucester Ontario**

As Children Who Witness Counsellor, your responsibilities will include short term counselling, crisis intervention, group support, maintain linkages with other agencies, facilitate workshops in school settings and coordinate the School Based Violence Prevention and be a support to the Gender based violence team.

**RESPONSABILITIES**
- To provide group and short-term individual counseling to children who have
- witnessed gender-based violence.
- Offer support and parenting skills.
- To provide information, referral and advocacy
- Advocate on behalf of children/mothers when necessary.
- To complete all required administrative tasks and case related documentation
- Participate in community education initiatives and involves community members

in social action initiatives.

Participates on committees or coordinating bodies, working on the issue of
- Gender based violence.
- Participate in team meetings and centre-wide activities.

**WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO FIND IN YOU**
- BSW, university degree in another related discipline or diploma in social work with relevant experience
- A minimum of two-year experience working with children/youth
- Thorough knowledge of the needs and impacts of violence on women and children
- Knowledge of issues related to child development/psychology/parenting
- Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and more specifically those articles referring to child abuse.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated understanding of the issue of gender-based violence
- Experience counseling, demonstrated understanding and ability to work within a feminist framework
- Must have strong advocacy skills
- Experience in a community-based setting and thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources
- Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- A willingness to maintain high quality, client centered services through superior
- Possess a non-judgmental & egalitarian attitude regarding gender, race, culture, sexual orientation and socio-economic status
- Excellent ability to communicate (oral and written) in both English and French
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evening and weekends
- Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
