**Position Summary**:
Reporting directly to the Director of Lifelong Learning with the Walpole Island School Committee, the Principal is responsible for providing educational leadership in the community and for administering the education program in accordance with WIFN Policies and WIFN School Committee directives. The Principal is responsible for overseeing the implementation of academic programming and for developing and maintaining a positive learning environment for students at all levels of ability at the Walpole Island Elementary School. The Principal is responsible for providing supervision to the Elementary School and other support staff. The principal must fulfill his/her responsibilities with high ethical and moral standards and serve as a positive role model for staff and students. The principal must always act in the best interests of the students and ensure that all school staff work diligently to create a positive, caring atmosphere that encourages self
- discipline and promotes life-long learning.

The principal is responsible for ensuring that school staff complies with all policies, acts and regulations governing the operation of the school. The principal has the responsibility to ensure that the school operates within defined financial parameters in delivering a curriculum that meets the needs of students of all ages. The principal must maintain ongoing contact with the Director to report on accomplishments or discuss issues that may require additional administrative, policy or financial support.

**Requirements**:

- BA, B. ED, and/or Master’s Degree in Education.
- Ontario Teaching Qualifications in Primary, Junior, and Intermediate Divisions.
- Member in good standing with Ontario College of Teachers.
- Ontario Principal’s Council Certification.
- Teaching and Principal experience in a First Nations school, minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.
- Working knowledge of provincial and federal education programs currently delivered in First Nations.
- Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabeg culture.
- Demonstrate strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of curricula.
- Clean Vulnerable Sector/Police Check.
- Able to serve as a positive role model for students.

- A good working knowledge of Computers and digital devices.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
- Dedication to the continued development of the Elementary Program.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide supervision to school staff and other support staff. Coordinate and implement academic programming and ensure efficient operation of the Walpole Island Elementary School.
- Develop and implement an appropriate timetable for the academic school year.
- Assign staff within the program area in an effective manner
- Evaluate staff as per WIFN Personnel Policy.
- Develop, review, revise, and make recommendations for school-related policies and procedures for WIFN School Committee consideration and/or approval.
- Utilizing the provincial curriculum guidelines and standards, develop, and implement curricula applicable to community needs and culture using the holistic approach.
- Ensure the accuracy of all school records and that report cards are issued and signed.
- Review and approve ISC Nominal Roll submission and complete all ISC and funding reports in a timely manner.
