**Job description**

At Bruce Oake we work to support a continuum of integrated substance use health services. In our first year of operations, we have successfully reduced health care inequities by removing any financial barrier to our program - no one is turned away for an inability to pay. Meeting each person where they are at and through collaboration with health, social service and community partners, we build individualized treatment plans to achieve self-determined well-being goals for our participants.

Our live-in 16-week substance use disorder treatment program in Winnipeg houses 50 individuals with a waitlist of over 200. Bruce Oake Recovery Centre is excited to offer an opportunity to join our team as a Resident Support Worker.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**
- Lived experience of substance use disorder and recovery
- Observes and documents residents' bio-psycho-social-spiritual cultural status
- Provides supportive counselling, monitors, and documents changes.
- Performs duties such as admission and discharge of residents by reporting and providing incident reports, providing orientation for new residents.
- Documentation of individual behaviors and activities through writing of daily records and logs, making referrals to other services.
- Assembles and distributes information and resource materials for residents.
- Supports medical emergencies by managing the situations in accordance with established policies and procedures. Reports unsafe conditions and behavioral, physical and/or cognitive changes to the supervisor or designate.
- Provides supportive programming and individual supportive counselling to residents.
- Acts as a role model for healthy lifestyle choices and encourages residents to actively participate in recovery-oriented activities including social, recreational, art and leisure activities, as well as peer support and mutual aid meetings based individualized residents’ needs identified.
- Coordinates daily living activities and assists the counselling team in the provision of individualized treatment plans.
- Works collaboratively with staff and community partners in the provision of integrated care.

**Qualifications/Experience/Skills**
- Relevant training/diploma/certification or 1 year related experience
- Ability to manage conflict in a calm, assertive and respectful manner.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective in building trust and rapport
- Experience in observing and recognizing behavioral and/or health status changes in residents.
- Effective in mentoring others and ability to role model healthy lifestyle choices and set and maintain boundaries.
