Camp Counsellors are responsible for ensuring the successful day-to-day implementation of camp programming. They will be responsible for a group, which will have between eight to twelve campers that range from the ages of 4 to 12 years old. Camp Counsellors ensure that all children and youth have a safe and positive camp experience leading to personal growth and leadership opportunities. Camp Counsellors lead campers through various camp programs such as archery, canoeing/ kayaking, fire building, slacklining, multi sports, mountain biking, along with cooperative small and large group games
***In this role, you will**:
- Program plan and ensure daily and weekly YMCA camp plans are completed and in line with meeting objectives of program modules set up by supervisor
- Deliver programs that are following the plan and ensure campers are having a fun, safe and engaging high quality experience
- Participate enthusiastically in all camp programs with camper group, including recreational swimming
- Supervise a camper group ensuring that each camper is safe, supported and welcome at all times during the camp experience
- Responsible for attending all staff trainings and meetings; arriving on time, and actively participating and contributing to the development of all camp staff
- Ensure Health & Safety procedures are being followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning, safety and maintenance to camp sites
- Act as a positive role model for the campers and fellow staff through embodying the YMCA values, policies and procedures, Day Camp conditions of employment/guidelines and the Ontario Camping Association standards
**You bring**:
- Minimum age 16 years old by December 31st
- Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ certificate valid until the last day of contract
- Experience working with children preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with families, staff and volunteers
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
