Under the direct supervision of the Social Services Director the Band Representative will advocate and represent registered and affiliated First Nation members that are involved with any and all Child Welfare Agencies throughout Canada. The object of this position is to ensure that any notification from Child Welfare Agencies is responded to within its mandated timeframe. To ensure that all of the members of Wahnapitae First Nation have a Band representative present or available when dealing with all Child Welfare Agencies, as per the Child and Youth Family Services Act in Ontario and notification from other Provinces.

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Work alongside the Band Representatives in the delivery of support programs and services
- Provide administrative duties for the Band Representatives
- Must be reliable and ensure confidentiality
- Coordinate and present prevention programs/workshops to the public
- Interacts with clients on a continuous basis
- Maintains up-to-date documentation for client contact consistent with agency policies and standards.
- Provide advocacy to our Wahnapitae First Nation members
- Perform other duties as required by the Band Representatives

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum of 3 years experience in the Child Welfare Field.
- Social Work Degree/Diploma or related.
- Experience working with First Nation people.
- Working knowledge of Customary Care.
- Fully understand the CYFSA.
- Knowledge of our community and its practices.
- Knowledge of the history of Child Welfare as it pertains to Aboriginal communities.
- Strong verbal and written skills.
- Able to sit and participate on the Child Wellbeing Working Group board to be a part of developing the new laws that will affect First Nation Children.
- Experience developing detailed plans and critical path timelines as well as managing.
- Be able to meet all timelines as needed to meet child welfare legislation.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must have a valid G-class driver's license.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Work is performed in person, and work environments include office settings, client homes, and other support and service locations.
- Travel to provide transportation to support and services is required.
