This posting is for two (2) unionized contractual course-by-course appointment to teach two courses as a Course Lecturer. Course lecturer positions are governed by the Collective Agreement between McGill University and McGill Course Lecturers and Instructors Union (MCLIU)-CSN.

Hiring Unit: Office of First Nation and Inuit Education (OFNIE)

Course Number-Section and Title (CRN): EDEE 370-731/741 Traditional Indigenous Life Skills

Course Description: Elementary Education: Sharing, modelling and transferring of Indigenous knowledge about living in harmony with the elements and the environment. Featured topics include weather and its traditional interpretation, ice conditions, animal behaviours and their interactions with the environment. Hands-on learning will be emphasized.

Schedule: Week 1 & 3: 9am-Noon, 1pm-4:30 pm (in-person)

Location: 731 Chisasibi/ 741 Mistissini

Travel, taxi/mileage, accommodation and per diems are covered by the Office for instructors who require it.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):
Education
- A Master’s degree (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered)

Experience
- Expert knowledge of course content as outlined in the course description
- Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) and the curriculum of the partnering school board with whom this course is being giving in collaboration.
- Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation
- Knowledge of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Experience as a teacher or consultant in the partnering school system for which this course is being delivered.
- Experience teaching in the Quebec elementary school system
- Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers.
- Previous successful experience teaching similar courses in Indigenous communities.
- Experience developing curriculum and/or instructional approaches grounded in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies.

Other
- If the applicant has not taught this course previously, but has taught in the hiring unit previously, she/he must have had satisfactory teaching evaluations that meet the Department’s expectations.
- Adherence to evolving program requirements concerning course content and program-developed competencies; course content and references must reflect the most current advances in the field.
- This course must be modified to the educational, social, and cultural context of the community in which it is being delivered.
- Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the course start date.
