Designed to meet the needs of multiple events, Nova Scotia's Halifax Convention Centre offers over 120,000 square feet of flexible event space in the heart of downtown. The Halifax Convention Centre is part of the Nova Centre, a million-square-foot, mixed-use development that includes a hotel, office towers, and retail space. It is the largest integrated development project in the province's history.

**THE POSITION**:
The Chef Tournant is a cook who has reached a certain level of responsibility in the kitchen, where they will lead a group of Commis with daily tasks. The Chef Tournant is expected to lead his/her team by example. The Chef Tournant should expect to be rotated into different areas with or without advance notice in regards to business demands and career development. Chef Tournant rotations are at the sole on discretion as per event business demands.

**THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Ensure all food is prepared fresh and is of the highest quality.
Strictly adheres to all recipes, methods and instructions from supervisor.
Maintain an organized and efficient flow of production, with regards to changes in forecasts and menus.
Ensure development of team members through on-going mentoring
Encourage team members for successful achievements and contributions.
Ensure proper rotation, storage temperatures, and proper storing procedures are observed.
Assist to ensure that all direct and indirect subordinates are fully aware of company standards concerning food production, food presentation, food handling, controlling procedures and sanitation and health program.
Full awareness of all menu items, their recipes, methods of production and presentation standards.
Ensure effective communication between staff by maintaining a secure and friendly working environment.
Ability to produce own work in accordance with a deadline and to assist and encourage others in achieving this aim.
Guide the subordinates on a daily basis to ensure high motivation and economical working environment.
Should be able to set example to others for personal hygiene and cleanliness.
Daily feedback collection and reporting of issues as they arise.
Maintain a high standard of professionalism, personal hygiene, and grooming.
Carry out any other duties as required by management.

**THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS**:
Red seal certification in Culinary Arts through a recognized interprovincial agency or international equivalence.
5+ years' experience in volume culinary production with competencies in fine dining.
Culinary leadership and experience for menus servicing upwards of 2000 event guests.
World Cuisine experience as well as menu development considered an asset.
Proven communication, organizational, time management, and advanced computer skills.
Must be available to work varying shifts, including evening, weekends, holidays and "on call" rotation as required.
