The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.

Land use planning is one of a suite of approaches that the ministry can use to sustain important ecosystems and processes, resolve resource use issues and enhance certainty for environmental and economic goals. It is underpinned by socio-economic analyses, as well as assessment and monitoring of the condition of natural resource values. It offers an opportunity to advance reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and can provide direction for forestry, energy development, ecosystem protection, recreation activities and other resource use decisions.

The primary focus of this Land and Resource Specialist position is to develop creative management solutions to strategic resource management issues. This position bridges environmental, social and economic disciplines of natural resource management to advance policy, ministry priorities and strategies, and operational delivery of stewardship outcomes. The Land and Resource Specialist will lead diverse project team of multidisciplinary specialists across multiple agencies and is responsible for the management, coordination and delivery of strategic initiatives from initiation through to conclusion. This position deals with complex natural resource issues involving multiple stakeholders and First Nations.

**Job Requirements**:

- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists). **Note**: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
- A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in a natural resource management related field or an equivalent combination of education/training, plus five (5) or more years’ experience working in a natural resource discipline.
- Significant experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
- Demonstrated experience in managing multi-disciplinary projects in which innovative solutions were implemented to solve a unique or complex natural resource management problem.
- Demonstrated experience in a multiple partners environment understanding perspectives, conflicts and facilitating/developing solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in distilling and communicating complex natural resource information to laypersons.
- Demonstrated experience related to First Nations engagement, collaboration and relationship building.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Experience managing technical and/or professional staff in natural resource management.
- Experience and/or training in planning, particularly land use planning for natural resources.
- Experience and/or training in project management, including decision support.
