Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 65,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

**About this Role**

The Extension Coordinator is integral to extending Shelter Movers into the communities surrounding the Shelter Movers Halifax chapter. They will report directly to the Volunteer Services Manager and work closely with the Local Operations Manager, Local Chapter Director, National Expansion Manager, and the rest of the local staff and volunteer team. The primary role is to foster relationships with organizations, build volunteer recruitment and serve as a liaison between Halifax and the local community. Other duties include identifying potential partnerships, reaching out to businesses, organizations and volunteer groups, and building core relationships in the outlying communities in Colchester, Cumberland, South Shore and Annapolis Valley.

**Responsibilities**
- Collaboratively develop and implement an effective local volunteer recruitment strategy to meet predetermined targets
- Represent Shelter Movers by championing the Shelter Movers brand and values, attending community events and being active and visible in the community
- Support the development and maintenance of partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and community partners
- Compile and maintain a local key contact database in Colchester and Cumberland, South Shore and the Valley.
- Maintain regular communication with the local management team
- Attend moves, and storage visits in Colchester, Cumberland, South Shore and Annapolis Valley area as needed
- Assist with other chapter-level functions when necessary, including but not limited to supporting event planning, monthly newsletter creation, volunteer engagement and operational support
- All other duties as assigned by Leadership

- Demonstrates a deep commitment to Shelter Movers’ mission of supporting survivors of gender-based violence
- Knowledge of the local community and ability to network with other organizations and individuals
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and reliable work habits
- Excellent interpersonal skills - friendly and sociable
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license is required
- Experience with community initiatives and volunteering is preferred

**Role Details**
- Job Type: Part Time/Permanent
- Hourly rate: $23-25/hour
- Hours: 21 hours per week (flexible work schedule), some evenings and weekends availability required
- This position requires the Extension Coordinator to reside within Colchester, Cumberland, South Shore or Annapolis Valley. Occasional travel between HRM and our rural extensions will be required.
