**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Position Summary**:
Under the supervision and direction of the Volunteer Coordinator and the Social Enterprise Coordinator of Oyate Tipi and in accordance with Oyate Tipi’s philosophy, goals and standard practices, this position is responsible for a number of areas including but not limited to:

- Assess individual’s homes and help them to prevent bed bug infestations
- Educate individuals on their rights as tenants
- Provide education and support on how to prepare for bed bug treatments should they become necessary
- Develop and facilitate training seminars on these topics for Oyate Tipi Referral Partners.

**Community Member Services**:

- Create a welcoming environment for all staff, volunteers, customers, and community members
- Assist community members in preventing and identify when bed bugs invade their home
- Aid with bed bug proofing community members homes
- Share information about the identification, prevention, and response to bed bugs
- Help individuals learn how to have good communication with their landlords, how to notify their landlords of an infestation, and inform individuals about their rights under the landlord-tenant’s board
- Assist with preparation for bed bug treatment should it be necessary
- Answering questions, addressing complains and/or directing contractors to the Executive Director as needed.
- Looks for opportunities to experiment and understand variability in outcomes
- Considers multiple options, reserves judgment, emphasizes intuition, and thinks outside the box

**Community Partner Education and Support**:

- Present workshops to train community case managers at our referral partners about how to support their clients in the prevention and preparation regarding bed bug removal
- Assists the Volunteer Coordinator to work effectively with community volunteers who are supporting the various activities needed for the smooth operations of Oyate Tipi
- Assists with training and support for volunteers and new staff members in partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator
- Utilizes various facilitation skills
- Attends all meetings as required
- Other duties as assigned

**Administrative Management**:

- Files monthly reports and all other reports as needed
- Works cooperatively with all other staff and volunteers.
- Attends professional development workshops and training opportunities as directed by their supervisors

**Qualifications**:

- Those with Indigenous heritage are strongly encouraged to apply
- Prefer a minimum of 2 years working experience
- Basic knowledge about the prevention and elimination of bed bugs and comfort working in bed bug infested homes would be preferred
- Class 5 license with access to a reliable vehicle
- Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Must have the following checks within the last 3 months: Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry, and Vulnerable Persons
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
- Must have strong organizational skills, excellent writing skills (in English) and ability to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Outstanding Customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed

**Rate of Pay**: $18.00/hour for a 40-hour work week

Pension Plan and benefits available upon the successful completion of a 3-month probation period.

Hours of work are usually from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 months

**Salary**: $18.00 per hour
