Non-profit Bookkeeper

The Calgary Horticultural Society is a charitable organization focused on gardening and growing in our Prairie Climate. We are currently seeking a bookkeeper on a part time basis. This is a remote position but would require one day a month in office.
**Accounting**
- Bookkeeping and general ledger duties in accordance with established accounting practices including but not limited to:
- Prepare source data for computer entry by reviewing data for deficiencies, resolving discrepancies by using standard procedures or returning incomplete documents for resolution.
- Enter data into QuickBooks. Verify data entered.
- Monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
- Accounts payable - verify payable invoices, coding and confirm\follow up appropriate approvals.
- Deferred revenues - work with Executive Director to determine monthly revenue to recognize and assist with maintenance and reconciliation of tracking schedule for both memberships and grants.
- Reconcile various other accounts as requested.
- Maintain accounting records.
- Make recommendations on improvements in financial processes, system, reporting and work with Treasurer to implement approved changes.
**Reporting**
- Prepare monthly financial reports for review by the Treasurer including balance sheet, income statement and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly membership fees and allotted funding & grants (deferred revenues) reconciliations for review by the Treasurer.
- Track budget to actual and work with Executive Director to prepare a narrative on variances, when applicable.
- Assist with preparing various reports to the Board upon request.
- Prepare year end working papers to support annual audit process.
**Qualifications**
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience.
- Knowledge of non-profit financial accounting and processes.
- Proficient in using QuickBooks.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 5 per week
**Salary**: $25.00-$27.00 per hour

- Monday to Friday
