The incumbent creates reports and proposals for securing and implementing new resources. Works as part of the team to provide reference service and bibliographic instruction to students, faculty, and staff; organizes and maintains the library’s collections and ensures security thereof. Participates with other library staff in problem solving as well as processing, implementing, and establishing library policies and procedures.

**CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Reference/Assistance to Students & Faculty: 45%**
- Provides advanced and detailed reference and information literacy to all library patrons by accessing numerous sources including automated catalogue, periodicals, government documents, online electronic databases, Internet, books, special collections and other resources within the Library.
- As a library technician the incumbent implements reference services, which require a more advanced and detailed search. Instructs students, faculty, and staff, individually or in groups, on how to access the full range of library services.
- Responsible for educating students on lifelong learning research skills.
- Based on requests from faculty and students, the library technicians collaborate on the selection of materials/resources to be added to the Library collection.
- Schedules, develops, and implements in-class instruction and Staff PD instruction as it relates to the library, its circulation, and materials.

**Works in Collaboration with IT Client Services on Projects: 45%**
- Responsible for identifying new technologies, research tools, and innovative library services.
- Incumbent is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the automated circulation and cataloging system/the reference area electronic database computers/the staff computers/the scanner. Incumbent is responsible for updates and communication with suppliers and vendors and IT Services.
- Initial troubleshoot of various hardware issues with PC's, printers, scanners, etc.
- Ensures remote access or off-campus use of electronic resources is functioning properly.
- Planning of policy formation and departmental decision-making relating to library services, collections, and new technologies.
- Plans, designs, monitors, and updates Library web pages.
- Creates and distributes paper and electronic pathfinders for specific course related material.
- Arranges for previews of electronic databases choosing appropriate databases for student faculty and staff use and liaises with database vendors.
- Responsible for the location and purchase of specific resources through Document Delivery for students, faculty, and staff.
- Incumbent oversees all Copyright and Public Performance Rights for library. Will prepare reports and proposals for implementation of projects related to Copyright Issues.
- Represents college on provincial User Advisory Committee.
- Incumbent fields incoming calls from end users.
- Assisting with imaging, configuration, and setup of computers.

**Circulation: 5%**
- Responsible for service within the Library, assisting patrons with circulation of library materials through automated system, confirming current status of student through PeopleSoft, issuing Library Cards to new patrons, room bookings, responding to brief reference queries, handling public relations problems, and answering directional questions.

**Miscellaneous Duties** which may include, but are not limited to**:5%**
- Replaces/backfills other library staff as required.
- Participates in bi-annual inventory.

- Student difficulty in locating specialized and highly technical material required to complete assignment.

**PLANNING/COORDINATING**
- Incumbent manages the Document Delivery Service allowing students, faculty, and staff to request copies of journal articles, conference proceedings, historical documents, or other documents.
- Planning and implementing Information Literacy for in-class student/faculty/staff research sessions.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months

**Salary**: $30.87-$35.77 per hour
