Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

**Our Team**:
The Central Lab processes approximately 6000 samples per month from various areas including but not limited to the Smelter, Mill, Nickel Refinery, Acid Plant, Environmental, and OEMP. We maintain a strong presence as a top-quality service provider to our internal Vale customers regarding their process quality, health monitoring, and research initiatives. **The Opportunity**

We are currently seeking an Analyst, Local 2020-05 to join our Central Lab in Sudbury. This is a permanent full-time position.

The Analyst provides analytical services to various customer groups within Sudbury operations, by performing chemical and instrumental analysis on a wide assortment of samples using a variety of analytical methods and chemical instrumentation.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences - and that's what makes us great

**Accountabilities**

In this position you will:

- Perform routine analytical work following established procedures on a wide variety of samples using classical and modern instrumental methods of analysis (e.g. AAS, GFAAS, XRF, LECO, MALVERN/PSD, BET, wet lab techniques including titrations and digestions, experience in GFAAS,ICP-OES, ICP-MS, GC, GC-MS, though not required, is preferred).
- Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment. Maintenance involves calibrating, cleaning parts and troubleshooting problems, to ensure that instrumentation remains in full working order.
- Meet quality assurance controls, in compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
- Read and understand instructions, procedures, manuals, administrative guidelines.
- Provide basic information and answer routine queries from customers.
- Actively participate in activities related to the execution of the departmental Safety plan.

**Qualifications and Specific Skills**

**Other Required Skills**:
**Communication Skills** - Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

**Math Skills** - College / University level numerical / mathematical skills and basic knowledge of statistics and control charts.

**Computer Skills** - Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as broad knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.
