Job Summary:
Reports to the Supervisor, Instrumentation.

CF Industries is currently seeking an Instrument Technician to join our Maintenance Department, located at our Medicine Hat Complex.

The Instrument Technician plays an essential role to install, repair, maintain and calibrate indicating, recording, transmitting, and controlling instruments. These instruments are used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, force and chemical composition to support the continued safe operation of the Medicine Hat Complex.

The Technician will be able to work independently as well as part of a team of eight and may periodically be required to assist with the planning of work orders during periods of high backlog.

**Job Description**:
What you’ll do:

- Support site EHS policies, procedures, programs and initiatives through Leadership, Participation, and Compliance.
- Trouble shoot, repair, and calibrate any electronic or pneumatic transmitter, controller, transducer or recorder contained in a control loop, including the alarms and trip circuits associated with the loop.
- A courageous safety leader who consistently embraces and sponsors CF’s safety culture, is the expectation.
- Interact with the DCS Tech’s and Production personnel as a part of these activities.
- Read and understand loop drawings, circuit diagrams, and maintain typical documentation such as calibration & data sheets, drawings, work history, preventative maintenance accuracy, etc.
- The above work may be carried out on any of the following types of control loops: (Flow, temperature, pressure, level, density and speed.)
- In addition to normal field repairs and calibration, overhaul control valves, including removal from and installation back into the process, when required. Overhaul includes complete disassembly and inspection of the valve body, actuator and positioner.
- Analyzer maintenance includes daily routines and calibration checks. The list of typical analyzers includes densitometers, mass spectrometers, gas chromatographs, infra-red analyzers, conductivity analyzers, pH meters, combustible gas detectors, oxygen analyzers, ammonia detectors, ultraviolet/IR/visible light fire detection equipment, and personal area monitors such as LEL, O2, CO2, NH3 “Sniffers”.
- Participate on development teams at times for new equipment or processes. Provide perspective on maintenance consistency and effectiveness for future reliability
- Troubleshoot all pneumatic instrumentation and control valves. Troubleshoot electronic equipment manufactured from discrete components but only to a circuit board level for equipment manufactured from integrated circuit components.
- Become part of an On-Call rotation as scheduled by the Supervisor, to support the Instrumentation equipment outside of normal working hours.
- Participate in training opportunities that can include offsite formal equipment specific seminars, but more commonly the onsite Instrument Shop training module development & presentation program.
- Provide training and mentorship to develop highly skilled and successful apprentices.

**Required Skills**:

- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Alberta Journeyman Certificate with experience as an Instrument Technician in an industrial plant setting.
- Interaction experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and PLCs would be an asset, as well as familiarity with the use of a PC as an instrument communication & calibration tool.
