- The Adventure Earth Centre engages children, youth and families in nature-based experiential programs in environmental/earth education, youth leadership and outdoor recreation. - Successful applicants will be working in a canoe and Kayak day camp. Programs include day camps for 6-9 year olds, and 10-12 year olds.**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Maintain Adventure Earth Centre's core values, understand and uphold HRM policies and procedures
- Attending al required training sessions
- Confidently set up sites and deliver assigned Canoe and Kayak programs to participants according to program manuals, content, and delivery methods
- Participate in check ins and debriefs each day
- Establish and maintain group community standards, support other leaders by role modelling positive behaviours, and use appropriate techniques of behaviour guidance
- Organize, manage, and maintain equipment and supplies
- Ensure the safety and positive experience of participants, youth leaders and other staff at all times
- Organize and lead out trip programs and experiences
- Support youth leaders in their development by assisting Coordinators with goal setting, supervision and mentorship, support, feedback, and evaluations
- Assist with the completion of evaluations for each youth leader at the completion of programs
- Include youth leaders in meetings and debriefs
- Support persons with diverse needs and disabilities in programs (e.g. personal care, lifting, procedures, adapting activities, developing individualized plans when needed, etc.)

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education and Experience**
- Current certification in Emergency First Aid including Level C CPR (CSA Basic) (valid through to August 25th 2023)
- At least one season/summer of experience working or volunteering with children
- Previous leadership experience with outdoor, environmental and/or earth education
- Understanding of Healthy Childhood Development an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License an asset
- Canoeing/Kayaking certification an asset
- Restricted Operator's License (Maritime) - VRH Radio Training an asset
- Pleasure Craft Operator card
- Paddle Canada or ORCKA Canoe certification
- Paddle Canada or ORCKA Kayak certification
- Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
- Advanced First Aid an asset
- Studies in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Education or similar courses an asset

**Conditions of Employment**
- Applicants must be willing to obtain WHMIS training
- Copies of certification must be submitted upon hiring
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions

**WORK STATUS**: Casual/Seasonal, Full-Time July 3rd 2023 - August 25th 2023, plus training (Virtual, e-learning, and in person)

**TRAINING DATES (mandatory)**:
**HOURS OF WORK**: Up to 40 hours per week. Opportunities to work evenings and weekends. Day Camp staff work 8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday

**SALARY**: $17.30 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

**WORK LOCATION**: Adventure Earth Centre
- St. Mary’s Boat Club, 1641 Fairfield Road, Halifax
