**Job Posting: Communications and Research Assistant**

**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Assist in the creation and overseeing of communications budgets, reports, and presentations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of communication strategies.
- Assist in building and maintaining relationships with Transit advocacy groups, the media, labour organizations and all levels of government.
- Responsible for all work of a political nature (i.e., communicating with political entities, including setting up appointments), social media, campaigns, advertising, and communication to and from outside organizations directly related to the work of the position.
- Assist in developing a network of internal and external contacts.
- Establish and maintain files and statistical information on Transit-related matters.
- Attend meetings, conferences and community gatherings when required.
- Assist in the control of the flow of information, understanding the importance of timing and setting.
- Assist in responding to crises and setbacks and ensuring that information released is consistent with the strategy at large.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a community presence and supporting community activities.
- Member Information Services - Assist in the research and creation of key points of interest for member education, posts on the private Facebook group and text messaging service. Assist in the accumulation, drafting and videography of the local Officer’s weekly video messaging to the membership and post on the members only Facebook group.
- Update and maintain a timely presence on all social media groups: members only Facebook group, public facing Facebook group, Twitter, Instagram, & YouTube.
- Create digital art for use in flyers, social media posts, promotional materials like feather flags, lawn signs and pop-up displays.
- Update the atu1505.ca website and make regular postings.
- Daily news briefing of the Executive Board on current events.
- Research - FIPPA requests, archive searches, surveys, etc.
- Assist in public engagements - leafleting (from design to distribution), coordination of volunteers, town halls, etc.
- Respond to media enquiries, supply key messages, write press releases, and arrange interviews for ATU representatives.
- Provide the Executive board with a written submission of monthly activities.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- A university degree in communications and/or research-related discipline, or a combination of education and experience, is an asset.
- Working knowledge of office equipment, word processing database programs and software in a Microsoft Windows-based environment.
- Demonstrated strong professional/creative writing skills, marketing, photography, videography, graphic design, and website management skills.
- Creative and Critical Thinking skills.
- Planning, time and project management skills.
- Experience in working for not-for-profit organizations is an asset.
- Knowledge of issues and socio-economic conditions affecting Transit employees and the riding public.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, efficiently managing several projects at once, and meeting strict deadlines.
- Capacity to work independently and with a team.
- Union experience and knowledge of the labour movement is an asset.
- Bilingual (English and French) an asset.
