Selkirk Home Hardware Building Centre is looking for professional and accountable Sales Associates for part-time and full-time positions. The Sales Associate is responsible for providing superior customer service while ensuring the needs of the department are met.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
The Sales Associate is responsible for providing prompt and exceptional service to customers in the store. They assist customers with locating products and advise them on appropriate merchandise and related items that best suit their needs. The Sales Associate tickets and restocks merchandise and conducts cycle counting. They are also responsible for staying current with trends in the industry and completing general housekeeping of shelves and work areas in their department.

**TASKS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation.
- Assist customers in locating merchandise in the store or on homehardware.ca.
- Process special orders for non-stock or out of stock items.
- Communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate.
- Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, reordering merchandise, and restocking shelves.
- Participate in regular cycle counting and assist in taking annual inventory counts.
- Operate computer and POS software to aid in accomplishing department needs.
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Complete cross-training for other departments and assist other departmental needs as they arise (break coverage, call-ins, etc.).
- Answer the phone, pages, and radio promptly to assist customers and co-workers with price checks and other needs as they arise.
- Understand and abide by company values, policies, and procedures.
- Work on special projects and additional duties as assigned by management.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Must possess a friendly and helpful attitude towards customers and co-workers.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.
- Prior retail experience is beneficial.
- Prior knowledge of and/or experience in trades (electrical, plumbing, heating, etc.) is considered an asset.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Ability to stand and be on your feet for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.

**WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**:

- This position reports directly to the General Manager and Assistant Store Manager.

Pay: From $15.80 per hour

Expected hours: 23 - 40 per week
