**Position Overview**:
Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Designer and Project Manager, the Mechanical Drafter-Designer is responsible for completing CAD Drawings, Engineering Change Notices (ECN), and for document administration. This person is also responsible for the on-time issuing of reports and other project documentation. In addition, the Mechanical Drafter-Designer is expected to play a dynamic role in the involvement or lead of specific project tasks.
**Major Responsibilities**:
- Develop mechanical CAD Drawings based on a draft concept, Industrial Design or finalized 3D Design.
- Update and modify drawings in SolidWorks within the ECN process and share required forms for approval.
- Manage engineering document administration including revisions, changes, and control related forms and reports, 3D / 2D CAD, PDF files, Bill of Materials (BOM), mechanical drawing releases, and provide updates for non-engineering staff to review and evaluate.
- Work closely with other departments / teams and provide timely requested documentation, and updates to the technical data.
- Provide timely updates to the Senior Mechanical Designer and Project Manager to identify any project specific risks and/or issues. Proactively propose solutions and implement initiatives, and measures as requested.
**Skills & Qualifications**:
- Minimum undergraduate degree in mechanical, mechatronics, or systems design engineering plus 3+ years of work experience in engineering drawings. Create and revise designs using SolidWorks and document changes.
- A high degree of proficiency in SolidWorks: 3D modelling & rendering, detailing, dimensioning, configurations, templates, updating, creating custom materials in the SolidWorks library, linking properties and monitoring.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and specific requirements for sheet metal fabrication, wood processing, injection molding, CNC machining, 3D Printing and weldments are an asset.
- Ability to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on products
- Posses a basic understanding of aspects of product development including product specifications, design, rapid prototyping, manufacturing, purchasing, budgeting, etc.
- Basic knowledge of materials and process, including mass production methods such as sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, machining, plating and coatings, assembling, labeling, testing and quality control.
- Possess a wide range of interest and knowledge base in multiple engineering disciplines; ability to quickly problem solve with the expertise required to execute appropriate engineering solutions as well as the ability to suggest alternative solutions for current existing designs is an asset.
- Superior time management and organizational skills.
- A self-starter and adaptive learner.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Outlook, and Word is mandatory. Knowledge of Images manipulating using Adobe suite is in asset.
- Knowledge of common metals, plastics, plywood, vinyl materials and fasteners are an asset.
