Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next

**Employment Consultant**

The Employment Consultant will find job seekers and foster long-term relationships, understand client requirements, and employ recruiting methods to attract job seekers to assist in their overall key performance indicators and targets. They will have experience in managing a large caseload inclusive of a diverse client base which will provide ongoing support and career guidance to job seekers, develop job and placement opportunities for clients with employers, and match clients’ employment and training needs with those of participating employers.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
**Providing individual assessments, ongoing employment preparation support & career guidance for assigned clients by**:

- Interviewing and assessing new clients to determine their employment barriers, work preparation requirements, support needs, alternate options, and the need for referral to other agencies or support services. May conduct off-site interviews to facilitate clients’ needs.
- Liaising with a variety of government, community, social and educational agencies to share information, serve clients, and refer clients as appropriate.
- Conducting Information Sessions and delivering group workshops or one-on-one guidance in career clarification, employment preparation, job search and job maintenance, labour market, workplace safety, skills identification, apprenticeship and Canadian employer expectations for newcomers, etc.
- Researching labour market information, current trends, career options and qualifications, language and credential assessment processes and stabilization supports within the community.

**Seeks and develops job and placement opportunities and matches individual client’s employment and training needs with those of procured and established employers by**:

- Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding and knowledge of the local labour market to utilize trends and pursue opportunities, e.g. growth of particular business sectors, expansion of specific businesses, opening of new businesses
- Cultivating long-term relationships and developing new contacts with as many employers in the community as feasible and persuading them to take advantage of job/placement opportunities through these programs/initiatives.
- Determining eligibility of employer and training positions regarding the quality of training and supervision, work environment, and safety and insurance standards
- Marketing individual clients to employers to secure job opportunities or to obtain a variety of interventions leading to employment, including ‘Job Shadowing’, ‘Volunteer Work’, ‘Job Tests’ as well as longer-term ‘Work Placements’ via cold calls, utilization of job postings, established employer relationships, business directories, etc.
- Negotiating subsidies based on training required, employer and client needs, developing personalized ‘Training Plans’ in consultation with the employers and clients, monitoring adherence and progress.
- Assessing clients financial needs and providing special support allowances as required i.e. transportation costs, tools & equipment, uniforms/clothing, etc. ensuring proper supportive documentation is on file.
- Monitoring and documenting all activity with clients as ‘Case Manager’; providing statistical data required by funder and on-going follow-up after assigning an outcome from the program (at three, six and twelve months) to ensure successful outcomes to meet funder guidelines and Provincial standards.

**Enters client and other data into the funder database, by**:

- Following funder guidelines in reporting activities and outcomes with clients on a regular basis, performing follow up functions with clients that are recorded in the system. High level of accuracy and accountability required as data is monitored by the funder on a regular basis to ensure data integrity
- Complying with monthly funder auditing of data to ensure targets are met and service quality standards are maintained. This requires full knowledge of the funders database management system functionality.
