**Job Description**:
Reporting to a Program Coordinator, the LEAP instructor is responsible for course delivery and student evaluation as set out in the LEAP curriculum. This responsibility includes planning lessons and organizing instructional resources in order to facilitate the achievement of the course learning outcomes. Together with his/her teaching partner, the LEAP instructor is responsible for the assessment of these learning outcomes. The incumbent assists in duties that support the operation of the program and contributes positively to the team-teaching model by demonstrating commitment, cooperation, flexibility, and professional and appropriate behaviour.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Plans, prepares, organizes and delivers assigned courses in the LEAP Program
- Delivers assigned courses as described in the LEAP curriculum
- Plans lessons in coordination with the team-teacher
- Facilitates the achievement of course learning outcomes and the educational goals of the students
- Creates an environment conducive to purposeful learning and positive interaction
- Applies appropriate resources to enhance curriculum delivery
- Arranges for instructional support (library orientations, educational outings and guest lecturers) and contacts service departments (A/V equipment and software), as required
- Marks and returns assignments according to the level guidelines in order to assess students in all skill areas
- Develops materials that reflect the course learning outcomes, updates program resources, and uploads all materials used in class onto the shared network.

2. Performs and completes administrative duties associated with LEAP Program course delivery
- Maintains attendance records and notifies the LEAP Office in a timely manner of students with poor attendance in accordance with program procedures
- Prepares, administers and grades final exams and any supplemental exams
- Administers mid-session and final program evaluations in accordance with program procedures
- Conducts teacher-student conferences, as required
- Submits final grades and report cards to the LEAP Office on the last day of the session in accordance with program procedures
- Assists with new student placement testing and orientation
- Completes all administrative responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with program procedures
- Arranges a substitute instructor in circumstances of unavoidable absence from scheduled classes in accordance with program procedure

3. Engages professionally within LEAP and in the field of EAL and EAP
- Maintains comprehensive and current knowledge of LEAP, and best practices in teaching EAL and EAP
- Attends and actively participates in LEAP professional development days
- Fulfills professional engagement requirement as per program guidelines

4. Performs other responsibilities as required by the LEAP Management team
- Performs all duties in accordance with the policies of Langara College and the terms and conditions of their employment contract
- Sets and models a high standard of professional behaviour and appropriate appearance
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with administrators, peers, support staff, students, and the community at large
- Performs other related duties, as required

Qualifications Required:
Education
- Master’s Degree with a specialization in TESL (or related field). A Bachelor’s Degree in TESL or a Bachelor’s Degree and a TESL Canada accredited certificate, may be considered
- Minimum 4 years teaching experience (3200 contact hours) in EAL / EAP at the adult level, with a minimum of 2 years in academic preparation
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Sensitivity to and experience in cross-cultural settings in various environments and with different cultural groups
- Experience in materials development for an integrated skills EAP curriculum, an asset
