**Read-On Tutors (5 vacancies)**
**Summer Student Position**

The Brantford Public Library enhances the quality of life in our diverse community. We invest in valuable experiences, resources, and services, in a welcoming and equitable environment for all.

This is the 36th year the Brantford Public Library is providing our well-established summer Read On program. This program is designed for children in Grades 2 to 6 who need extra help and practice in English, French, and Math. Tutors customize each session to fit the individual needs of students. Activities are designed to be fun and engaging to not only improve the reading and math skills of the child, but also instill a confidence and desire to learn.

The Library is seeking enthusiastic and committed post-secondary students who have a passion for literacy and helping others. While tutor experience is an asset, initial and ongoing training will be provided to develop necessary skills.

**Reports to**:Manager - Programming and Partnerships

**Salary**:$17.13/hour

**Hours of Work**:Maximum of 35 hours per week. May include evenings and Saturdays.

**Qualifications**
- Basic computer skills
- Experience working with children
- Experience tutoring
- Pursuing post-secondary studies
- French language skills will be considered an asset

**Responsibilities**
- Review programs goals and objectives and liaise with parents
- Register children in the Read-On and Summer Reading programs
- Evaluate reading levels of participants and select reading materials
- Tutor children requiring help in reading, math and French (Grades 2 to 6), for one hour per day over a 2-week period
- Participate in daily meetings with peer tutors and supervisor
- Participate in weekend and evening shifts to assist in Summer Reading Program activities
- Maintain participation statistics and contribute to evaluation report at the end of summer

Satisfactory Police Check Vulnerable Sector required as a condition of employment.
