**Key Responsibilities**:
**Teach courses in Motion Capture for Animation and Game Design.**
- Instruct students in the role and importance of motion capture within the film, TV, and gaming industries.
- Provide training in simulating actor performances onto computer-generated characters using motion capture systems.
- Lead students in animating facial performances through motion capture technology to enhance character realism.
- Guide students through key tasks and stages within the motion capture production pipeline, including planning, shooting, data capture, clean-up, and final animation integration.
- Mentor students in incorporating emerging technologies, such as virtual production and real-time rendering, into their animation and gaming projects.
**Develop and enhance course curricula.**
- Create comprehensive lesson plans that balance theoretical knowledge and hands-on, practical experience.
- Ensure course content stays up-to-date with industry trends and technological advancements.
- Design assignments, projects, and assessments that promote creative thinking and technical skill development.
**Supervise and mentor students on individual projects.**
- Provide feedback and guidance to students, encouraging creative and technical excellence in their work.
- Assist students with troubleshooting software and hardware challenges related to motion capture and animation.
**Collaborate with other faculty and departments.**
- Work closely with colleagues in animation, game design, film production, and computer science to promote interdisciplinary learning.
- Contribute to departmental activities, such as curriculum development, research initiatives, and industry partnerships.
**Engage in professional development and industry networking.**
- Stay current on advancements in motion capture technology, animation software, and the broader entertainment industry.
- Establish connections with industry professionals to facilitate internships and job placement opportunities for students.
**Qualifications**
**GENERAL** **QUALIFICATIONS**
- Combination of excellent leadership and teaching skills with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student success
- Excellent communicator
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of learners from different backgrounds
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with various technologies
- Related industry work experience
- Previous post-secondary teaching experience (hybrid and/or online delivery) and knowledge of curriculum design and student evaluations are assets
**SPECIFIC** **QUALIFICATIONS**
- Master’s degree in a creative art/design program
- Minimum 10 years recent and relevant experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience teaching Animation, Motion Capture, 3D Max, Blender, Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop
- Familiarity in Character Anatomy; Creative Concept Design, Digital Sculpting/Painting, Character Design, Communication, Teamwork, Topology, Character Art - Modeling, Conceptual Art
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Experience in facial capture technologies, character rigging, and integrating performances in real-time engines
- Knowledge of emerging technologies in animation and game development, such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI)
- Published work, research, or projects in the areas of motion capture, animation, or game design
- Active participation in industry events, conferences, and professional organizations
- Extensive professional experience in motion capture for video games, animation, film, or a related industry
- Expertise in motion capture technologies and software, including but not limited to systems like Vicon, OptiTrack, and MotionBuilder
- Experience in teaching or mentoring students at the college level (preferred)
**Approximate Start Date: January 2, 2025**
**Salary**: Determination of starting salaries is based on relevant teaching/occupational experience and relevant formal qualifications, supported with original transcripts from granting institutions. The salary scale is $73,079 to $126,689 along with a comprehensive benefit package.**Partial load or full-time academic staff presently employed with the College will be given first consideration in accordance with the Academic Collective Agreement.**
