**Job Summary**
- Legal Counsel Office provides advice on a broad range of legal issues including corporate commercial contracts, inter-institutional arrangements, research contracts and intellectual property commercialization arrangements. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Associate Legal Counsel will work with other members of the Legal Counsel Office team in providing legal services to the university.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Undertake contract review, negotiation and preparation on behalf of the university, including IT agreements, service agreements, and consulting agreements.
- Assist university procurement department with the preparation and review of public tender documents and advise on appropriate contractual terms and conditions.
- Analyze operational liabilities and general risk management by assessing applicable law and existing university policies, regulations, practices and procedures.
- Review of existing university policies, regulations, practices and procedures, and assist in the writing and implementation of new or updated university policies, regulations, practices and procedures as necessary.
- Support on university projects and initiatives and give legal advice when required. Act as resource for university committees and working groups.
- Conduct legal research related to laws and regulations relating to university’s operation and provide recommendations based on that research.

**Note**
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree plus Bachelor of Laws, with a minimum of five years’ related experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Practicing member in good standing of Barristers’ Society of Nova Scotia.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a variety of contexts.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to adapt to the dynamic environment of a university community.
