**RESPITE WORKER**

**With experience caring for Adults with Developmental Disabilities**

Starting Wage Range: $20.30 - $21.81 plus $3.00 premium per hour

(Plus 17.5% in lieu of benefits, and paid personal time after 1yr of service)

**Position Description**:
Wesway is seeking Respite Workers to provide support to participants in our Respite Home Service, serving primarily adults. The Respite Workers are responsible to:

- Carry out all duties usually performed by the primary caregiver in relation to the day-to-day support of the participant. Participants are adults and seniors who have a wide range of physical, developmental and/or cognitive challenges (e.g., complex medical needs, Alzheimer Disease, or a related dementia). These individuals have a variety of unique support needs including, but not limited to, tube feeding, personal care, catheterization, lift and transfer support, medication, diabetic care, etc.
- Plan and carry out both home and community-based recreational and leisure activities which are geared to the unique strengths, needs, and preferences of all participants.
- Perform all duties required to support the day-to-day operation of the Respite Home Service (e.g., meal planning and preparation, laundry, house cleaning, shopping, management of petty cash, documentation).

**Qualifications**:

- Previous experience supporting people with significant care needs/disabilities.
- Previous experience supporting multiple participants within a team environment is an asset.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with responsive behaviours.
- Proven skills in developing and planning recreational activities specific to the needs of individuals. Commitment to full community participation for people with disabilities.
- Comfortable supporting individuals with personal care.
- Able to do lifts and transfers safely, as per Wesway’s policies.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Able to problem solve and work effectively in a complex, fast paced environment.

**Hours of Work and Availability Preference**:
Permanent part time rotations available working every second weekend with the option to pick up additional shifts via the on-call process. Occasional weekday work is available. Shifts occur on a regular rotational basis. Must be available for a full range of 8-hour shifts (days, evenings, and midnights).
