OBJECTIVES

The newly-created China Research Fellowships aim to deepen the Government of Canada’s understanding of China, and to foster the development of a next generation of Canadian policy makers and specialists who will be at the forefront in government, business, education and civil society.

DESCRIPTION

Through this process, we are seeking an early-career post-doctoral fellow who wishes to pursue a career path bridging academia and policy making and is looking to contribute directly to informed and forward-looking China policies and responses.

The position is a twelve-month fellowship (early career) with a salary based on relevant academic and work experience. Compensation may include contribution to statutory benefits (e.g. Employment Insurance).

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
- a complete transcript;
- a one-page research proposal on a significant foreign policy issue linked to Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC) mandate and its implications for Canada
- proof of successful completion of relevant doctoral studies
- a sample paper or publication

EDUCATION
- Applicants must be residing in Canada or Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have completed PhD Studies at a recognized institution of higher learning in any of the following areas: Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, History, Economics or a related program, and who have completed a thesis related to the fields mentioned above which include a China specialty.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
- Experience in preparation and publication of manuscripts

COMPETENCIES
- Excellent oral, technical written and interpersonal communication skills in English or French

ABILITIES
- Ability to take guided initiative and to work in an organized fashion within a fast-paced environment, including flexibility in shifting between independent and collaborative work and demonstrate collegiality and professionalism
