The Day Camp Counsellor is responsible for child minding at a day camp.
- This is a temporary full-time position at 40 hours per week from June 26 to Aug 25, 2023 (9 weeks)
- 6% vacation pay

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Day Camp Counsellor is responsible for the following range of duties under the supervision of the Day Camp Program Director:

- Give oversight and supervision of children
- Participate and lead aspects of camp program
- Encourage the healthy participation of each camper in the program
- Maintain, adhere to and administer camp rules/policies of the camp program at all times
- Assists with leadership training opportunities for youth volunteers as required
- May assist with registration and screening of campers upon arrival to camp
- Interact broadly with Southlands congregational members, community partners, neighborhood families and Church staff
- Willing to offer spiritual support to campers, parents, other staff members, and is passionate about sharing the Gospel with all involved in the program
- Other duties as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education**:

- High School age or High School Diploma

**Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements**:

- Clear Police Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
- Certificate in First Aid/CPR or willingness to receive training
- Able to legally work in Canada

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:

- Must be able to join children in a variety of activities and maintain a high energy level throughout the program days
- Must be able to wear a mask for extended periods of time
- Must enjoy working with children
- Able to work with, lead and organize youth volunteers
- Supportive knowledge of the mission of The Salvation Army
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution and organizational skills
- Ability to join children and youth in a variety of activities and maintain a high energy level throughout the program days
- Maintain focus with the children and youth throughout the program on a daily basis
- May have responsibility for handling cash under the direction of the Day Camp supervisor
- May give oversight to youth volunteers

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
- Work environment will include indoor and outdoor settings according to program planning which may include walking to off-site locations such as local parks or playgrounds.
