**Department/Faculty**

Facilities and Operations is a diverse envelope of services that is responsible for managing the buildings across our five campuses. Facilities and Operations manages capital construction and renovations, providing utilities and energy management to delivering student and campus services. Facilities and Operations works behind the scenes to make the university one of the top places in the world to study, live and work in.

This position is part of the Trades, Infrastructure and Maintenance (TIM), which is located within the Assets Management and Operations unit. TIM is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of maintenance services that support the building infrastructure system operations through the use of trades workers, general maintenance workers and leaders.

**Position Summary**

The general maintenance worker contributes to the team’s success by being a frontline worker who triages maintenance calls in a specified area of the University of Alberta campus. This role is responsible for investigating concerns pertaining to the operation, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of University spaces to ensure that the building conditions are safe and efficient for the building occupants.

The general maintenance worker also has the responsibility to contribute to the team’s success by helping build a culture of safety, planning, organizing work execution, recognizing priority maintenance items and ensuring the highest attention to detail in performing inspections on buildings.

**Duties**

The duties of a general maintenance worker include:

- Responding to maintenance, lamping, and operational concerns received directly or indirectly through a variety of mediums from University staff, students, and visitors.
- Prioritizes requests, investigates issues, ensures that repairs are addressed either from themselves or from a TIM trades personnel. Provides feedback to trades or clients on maintenance requests and completions.
- Is a safety champion by ensuring that they are and that team members work safely and comply with F&O safety programs.
- Performs regular and/ or occasional cleaning tasks to improve the safety at the University when directed to.
- Performs daily inspections of buildings including mechanical rooms and reports any findings to the maintenance desk for work order creations.
- The ability to work independent but as a team.

**Minimum Qualifications**

Education & Experience:

- Grade 12 high school diploma required
- Power Engineer Class 5 required with minimum 5 years working experience in a large scale facility that is responsible for multiple properties, including the use of building automation software.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Building Service Worker Certificate considered an asset
- Computer proficiency

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Conflict resolution training will be considered an asset.
- Natural inclination and ability to organize oneself, but open to learning improved organizational skills.
- Functional working capacity to operate software including but not limited to: Microsoft solutions, Google solutions, SupplyNet, and Assetworks AiM
- Strong working knowledge of base building systems: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, architectural components.
- Proficient use of Apple products such as iPad and iPhone.
