Job Summary
Shuswap Children’s Association, originally the Shuswap Exceptional Children’s Association, was founded in
1982 by a group of parents of children with support needs who found they were unable to access services for their children. They were joined by community professionals, service providers, and others who shared the goals of the parents.

The Shuswap Children’s Association’s Nest Positive Behaviour Support program operates under a Family
Centered model and provides children and youth with the opportunity to play, learn, and grow through research-based methods of intervention in a one-to-one support environment and/or a small group setting.
The Nest Positive Behaviour Support program focuses on providing children and youth with the opportunity to experience optimal development, while providing parents with the skills to meet their child’s needs at home and in the community, allowing them to participate to their fullest in community life.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Behaviour Analyst is responsible for conducting skills assessments, functional behaviour assessments, and writing Behavioural Plans of Intervention, Positive Behaviour Support
Plans, and Safety Plans. The Behaviour Analyst is also responsible for training and supervising Behaviour
Consultants, Assistant Behaviour Analysts, Registered Behaviour Technicians, and Behaviour Interventionists and/or parents on the implementation of plans as well as for monitoring client progress and updating plans as needed. The Behaviour Analyst attends meetings to advocate on behalf of clients as required.

Job Responsibilities
- Program Responsibilities_
- Conduct skills assessments (e.g., VB-MAPP, PEAK, etc.)
- Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs) and Practical Functional Assessments (PFAs)
- Design and implement individualized ABA-based behavioural plans of intervention (BPI) and associated teaching programs for children and youth with support needs
- Design Positive Behaviour Support Plans (BSP) for families, schools, and/or community programs
- Write Safety Plans for clients with behaviours that present immediate danger to themselves or others
- Provide implementation support for plans
- Provide on-going monitoring and evaluation of plans
- Prepare supports and materials as needed (or delegates this task to junior staff)
- Provide training and supervision to any Behaviour Consultants, Assistant Behaviour Analysts, Registered

Behaviour Technicians, or Behaviour Interventionists on the child’s team
- Provide consultation to families and/or other related parties
- Facilitate team meetings including other relevant professionals
- Collaborate with Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and other professionals
- Design and present training workshops

- Research the literature related to ABA-based interventions
- Design data collection protocols and interpret data to make data-based decisions
- Provide collaborative support in transitioning youth to school-based programs
- Meet clinical competencies
- Maintain professional and ethical standards as outlined by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board

(BACB)
- Administrative Responsibilities_
- Ensure the program adheres to the goals, philosophy, and policies of Shuswap Children’s Association
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the program
- Maintain program and client records and statistics, and ensure that all appropriate documentation is accurate and complete
- Ensure the confidentiality of all client records
- Monitor the effectiveness of the program
- Meet all reporting requirements of Shuswap Children’s Association
- Keep up-to-date resources and services available to program participants and the community
- Attend job-related meetings, including Shuswap Children’s Association staff meetings
- Staff Development Responsibilities_
- Participate in staff training as required
- Share information gained through training or team meetings with other staff members, where appropriate
- Community Responsibilities_
- Support the program’s connections with the community
- Participate in relevant community programs, services, and initiatives

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family-centered practice and inclusion
- Ability to work effectively with children and youth with support needs and their families
- Experience and/or training in supporting youth aged 12 - 19 with support needs and their families
- Ability to work effectively with Shuswap Children’s Association staff and other community professionals
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office
