LGBTQS community members face many barriers/challenges due to discrimination and ignorance by family/community notably in housing and mental health situation.

THHC helps newcomers with a wide variety of challenges - homeless/hidden homelessness, low-income individuals/families and people with mental health issues - to settle their journey successfully in Canada. We achieve this through our direct services which includes assisting with housing, providing employment counseling and support advocacy and building community capacity through info sessions.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide non-judgemental and anti-oppressive counselling to LGBTQS clients
- Maintain updated knowledge of community resources and services available to members of LGBTQS communities
- Identify systemic issues that client may face in peculiar circumstances and provide advocacy to overcome the challenges
- Establish and build trust-based culture and rapport with LGBTQS newcomers
- Assist with affordable and safe housing (market rent/transitional/subsidized) and match with potential landlords within the area of client’s preference
- Provide one-on-one counselling to people presenting with immediate settlement needs
- Design and deliver group info sessions to disseminate the programs and services available in the community to LGBTQS members
- Conduct community outreach in our neighbourhood
- Make a significant impact on our clients and community

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor degree in the field of social work
- Working experience with LGBTQS community would be preferable and preference will be given to LGBTQS applicants
- Experience and/or knowledge of working with people facing a range of challenges, including mental and physical health issues, impacts of trauma, relationship issues
- Knowledge of counseling strategies when working with LGBTQS identified people
- Great understanding of impact of abuse/neglect (educational, medical, physical, emotional, sexual, etc.) and resilience of the youth
- Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of the principles of social justice, cultural competency and equity and inclusion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Second language would be an asset

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Scarborough, ON M1P 2R7: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
