Permit Writeris responsible for managing day to day permitting and contractor site access for Watco’s Path 2 Zero (P2Z) construction work. This role will also be responsible for being the day-to-day onsite contact for other tenant related construction requests. Permit Writer must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, work well in a team environment, understand the regulations and rules to complete work safely on site, identify intervene, and escalate hazardous conditions or unsafe behaviors. This role will be a Monday to Friday standard 8-hour day with the ability to work extended hours and weekends as need if project scheduling dictates a need.

**Must be proficiently skilled, and knowledgeable in the following areas**:

- Personal Protective Equipment and Clothing
- Fall Protection and Elevated Work
- Blue Flag Protection
- Switching and Car Movement Safety (able to recognize hazards)
- Lockout/Tagout Safety
- Emergency Action and Response
- Site Security and access requirements
- Watco Safety Spike Program
- Contractor and Visitor Safety Programs
- Be knowledgeable in the following areas: Dow site standards, Watco site standards, Alberta regulatory standards

**Reporting Relationships**

The Permit Writer will report to the Director of Project Operations.  This position will work directly with project contractors and onsite operations to ensure efficient and safe completion of project tasks.

**Responsibilities**
- The Permit Writer position will review, issue, and monitor and work permits required for contractors to complete work for the P2Z project while reporting to the Director of project operations with updates issues concerns on site.
- We will work directly with site operations to coordinate work and ensure construction and day to day operations work together safely.
- The Permit Writer will conduct walkthrough inspections and audits of all work being completed in relation to P2Z (Watco or other tenants)
- Act as safety watch or flagger for work near active Watco operations track.
- Watco or other tenant construction that is affecting day to day Watco operations. This position will ensure construction follows and adheres to Watco and Dow safety procedures, policies, and rules as well as any regulatory rules that are applicable.
- This position will also be the onsite point of contact for any immediate requests or issues with other tenants on site.
- Coordination with Watco operation and tenant requests to complete P2Z related work on Watco property

**Job Requirements**
- High school education or general education (GED) or 3 to 6 months job-related experience; or equivalent of education and experience.
- Able to effectively communicate with team members.
- Able to provide clear, effective written and oral communication to fellow team members and contractors.
- Must be able to use the Microsoft suite of tools including Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.
- Must be a Team player and able to interact effectively with all team members and senior leadership.
- Must have a demonstrated good work ethic and lead by example in meeting schedules, appointments, and timelines.
- Must be a self-starter, demonstrate good time management and be flexible to changing request due to operational and or managerial concerns.
- Must possess a valid driver license with a clear record.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment and be able to climb ladders.
- Rail operations knowledge is an asset.
- Dow site experience is an asset.
- Permit writing experience is an asset.

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
