This position involves working in a dynamic and stimulating environment while utilizing the latest technology. Stratford’s **Intermediate Underwriter** reports to the Senior Manager, Insurance Operations and will collaborate with business development and business partners to assist with risk management, sales growth, business retention, and customer satisfaction. This role will be based at our head office in Vancouver, BC.

**Key responsibilities**
- Execute individual risk selection decisions in accordance to within established underwriting authority;
- Develop and maintain a professional relationship with broker partners to enhance understanding of the risk eligibility and to contribute to responsive quality service, problem solving, and risk selection;
- As a risk management expert, support profitable growth through negotiating terms and conditions of risk acceptance with brokers through the broker telephone and online support;
- Analyze new, modified and renewal business for eligibility by assessing exposures and hazards;
- Participate with the business development team to develop brokers, including product and system training, and corporate underwriting philosophy, policies and procedures training;
- Ensure that product changes or enhancements are communicated to business development, claims and brokers in a timely manner;
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes including competitive analysis and information, to ensure all necessary broker systems are updated and current;
- Participate in development of underwriting guidelines, marketing plan, products, and systems as they relate to insurance underwriting;
- Participate in underwriting and pricing audits as required.

**Key qualifications**
- 3 years of relevant underwriting insurance experience;
- University degree in a related field is preferred. Enrolled in an insurance and/or risk management program (FCIP, CIP, CAIB, CRM or ARM) is desired;
- General Insurance Licence is required.
