Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Post-secondary degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis and building and linking large data extracts from both structured and unstructured data.
- Experience in database methodologies, design, and modeling, as well as systems analysis and various database technologies.
- Strong knowledge of statistical and data analysis techniques with ability to use programming and scripting languages (e.g., SAS, Python, R).
- Experience in building prototypes from data models to support data analysis and visualization.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to respond to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in scripting and automating routine jobs to streamline data processes and improve efficiency.
- Proficiency in querying relational and non-relational databases (e.g., SQL, Oracle) for data retrieval and analysis.

**Desired**:

- Experience using SAS.
- Experience working in a health data environment.
- Experience working with all relevant areas of the big data ecosystem.

**Duties**:
Under the direction of the Manager, Administration & Operations, the Database Analyst works to develop and maintain database systems to support departmental business functions. The incumbent produces large data extracts from the Provincial Data Repository (PDR), works with source data providers to obtain data sets that are on the PDR Data Acquisition Roadmap and brings them into a staging environment to allow initial discovery to occur and/or any necessary interim analysis or reporting, and supports PDR access and usage audits. The Database Analyst also acts as a technical support within the branch and works closely with others in a team setting including stakeholders within and outside of government.
