**How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team**:
Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor, Survey & Drafting Services, the Environmental Field Technician position is responsible for effectively working within a team environment to collect topograhical/hydrographical survey data, aid construction projects with layout, elevations, horizontal and vertical positioning and mapping production. In addition, they will also be responsible for all inspection, cleaning and maintenance of any of the equipment and vehicles used by the Survey and Drafting Services team. The data collected and finished product that the team provides varies according to the client’s needs but typically relates to erosion sites, waterfront park and trail creation/maintenance, vegetation, wetlands, property lines, drainage, parking lots, monitoring, and archaeological discoveries. Overall this position plays an integral role in all aspects of surveying, sounding and drafting to provide a variety of services to internal and external clients.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Participate in a team environment with Survey Technicians and Coordinators in the field to collect data for:

- A variety of different types of topographic and hydrographic surveys including existing conditions surveys, construction support, as-builts, monitoring, studies and investigations.
- Operates survey field equipment such as Total Station, Global Positioning System(GPS) handheld, RTK GPS, Levels, hydrographic sounding equipment and software
- Using known geo-referenced Horizontal and Vertical Control Monuments, assist team members in transferring control to project sites by operating either the total station or RTK GPS
- Assists with any survey calculations, including back-sites, combined scale factors, slope grades, elevations, angles, coordinates and different co-ordinates systems, by providing information from the instruments
- Provides support in the office by downloading all data using appropriate software
- Transfers data to Autocad format
- Assists all team members in maintenance and upkeep of all survey vehicles and equipment as required
- Participates in and promotes maintaining a safe work environment by assessing hazards at each project site. Helps to prepare and maintain concise daily safety records associated with each of these projects

**What will you need to succeed**:

- Completion of first year of post-secondary education in environmental/civil engineering technology, Physical Geography, or related discipline that includes Surveying and Autocad course.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License in good standing
- Must be able to swim and participate in TRCA Water Safety Seminar which involves an in-water pool component
- This position can be physically demanding and involves working outdoors on a daily basis, including inclement weather all year long
