Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor, the Custodial Lead is responsible for assisting in overseeing the work of the Custodial team. Responsibilities include assisting in assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and recommending solutions; and report any disciplinary concerns to the Supervisor/Manager.

**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
- Responsible for assisting in assigning, directing work, and providing on the job instructions to custodial staff.
- Oversees the work product of other custodians on duty.
- Coordinates with Supervisor on work schedules to ensure timely and effective completion of maintenance and care of buildings and offices.
- Instruct custodians on the use of power-driven waxing and buffing machines and the various cleaning compounds.
- Ensures pre and post use checklists are being completed by all powered equipment operators.
- Assigns substitute custodian to areas where primary custodian is absent.
- Keeps custodial employees informed of change in policies and procedures.
- Communicates with Supervisor on issues of staff attendance and performance.
- Trains and supervises custodial staff as needed.
- Addresses complaints and recommends solutions.
- Reports any disciplinary concerns to the Supervisor/Manager.
- Assists in maintaining and requisitioning cleaning supplies and keep a record of stock.
- Maintains the interior and exterior of the buildings and their surrounding grounds.
- Keeps buildings and grounds in clean and orderly condition.
- Performs heavy cleaning duties including, but not limited to cleaning floors, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
- Ensures janitorial rooms are clean and stocked at the end of each shift.

**_This is a termed position and work hours are Friday-Tuesday 8am to 5pm._**

**Requirements**:
**WHAT IT TAKES**
- Grade twelve (12) education is preferred.
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is preferred.
- Supervisory/lead experience in custodial industry is preferred.
- Knowledge of WHMIS program and Occupational Health and Safety Standard preferred.
- Knowledge/previous experience working with chemicals and janitorial machinery preferred.
- Must be able to follow directions and work with minimum supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and and ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others
- Strong time-management skills and a proven track record of delivering quality results, with attention to details.

**_Note that this position is an in-scope position under the RWDSU Collective Agreement_**.
