**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
The purpose of the Instructor is to contribute to the academic success of students and to the success of the College in achieving its statement of purpose. Under general supervision, the instructor is responsible for providing instruction and facilitating student learning according to the prescribed curriculum.
Courses:
1. Introduction to Accounting
2. Financial Accounting
**REPORTING RELATIONSHIP**:
Director of Academic Affairs/Campus Director
**EMPLOYMENT TYPE**:
Part-Time, or Full-Time
**WORK WEEK**:
This position requires the Instructor to work Monday to Friday from 9:00 am - 1:00pm approximately **20 hours** teaching per week plus some admin. hours
**LOCATION**:
Primarily located at our Burnaby campus (working remotely for the time being)
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**:
- Degree, diploma or certification from a recognized university, college or institution relating to the area of instruction
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) from the National Payroll Institution (NPI) (formerly called Canadian Payroll Association) must be completed and must be a current certified member of the association
- At least 24 months experience in a related field
- Instructional experience preferred and/or possession of instructor’s certificate / willingness to take additional instructional delivery workshop(s)
- Approval by the Canadian Payroll Association prior to confirmation of teaching
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation
- Ability to motivate and inspire students
- Ability to demonstrate and encourage high standards of behaviour, a professional attitude and commitment to quality service
- Ability to work cooperatively with other instructors and staff
- Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of all students to provide feedback and treat students equitably, regardless of culture
**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- **Course Delivery and Classroom Activities**_
- Delivering instruction to students that meets course and program objectives as set out in the most current curriculum
- Preparing lesson plans and teaching aids that utilize a variety of teaching methods which will promote the attainment of desirable goals of students
- Being prepared for the start dates for each new course
- Starting course(s) on the given date
- Explaining the course outline to students on the first-class day
- Administering and grading assignments, quizzes, and exams as necessary
- Tracking student attendance on the prescribed report and returning to the administrative staff as required
- Ensuring that the classrooms and equipment are kept in an orderly state
- Discussing students’ progress with them individually or as a group
- **Relationships with Students, Staff and Management**_
- Refraining from fraternizing with students at a personal level.
- Dealing with students, staff and other instructors in a professional, courteous and helpful manner
- Alerting the administration of any student concerns which arise
- Informing the administrative staff of any significant changes or problems that arise during a course
- Assisting the Employment Coordinator and Program Coordinator in choosing suitable practicum / co-op hosts
- Attending Instructors’ Meetings, as required
- Possessing a clear understanding of and uphold the College’s policies and procedures relating to students and instructors
- Cooperating with administration and Campus Directors in the performance of their duties
- Completing and submitting required forms and records to administration in a timely manner
- Giving the College sufficient notice of any upcoming absence

- Providing copies of modified assignments, quizzes, or exams, with marking keys to the administration.
- Participating in the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional materials, as required
- Keeping course(s) up-to-date and maintain relevant industry skills and knowledge
