**GENERAL DESCRIPTION**

The Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families is an emergency shelter for women and families with minor children experiencing homelessness. In addition to shelter programming the Centre operates an active drop-in program for women and a client-centered food bank program. Utilizing a harm reduction model, we strive to deliver our services in a non-judgmental, supportive and housing-focused way. The Centre Food Service Worker assists clients by providing daily meals from a rotational two-week set menu, to upwards of 90-100 women and children accessing shelter.

On a daily basis, Food Service Workers are preparing, and serving breakfast, lunch (brown bag student lunch for school-aged kids) and dinner to shelter clients. Ensuring prompt services, efficiency, adherence to food and kitchen safety standards, Food Service Workers work in teams of 2-3 depending upon time of day, to ensure clients have access to nutritious, ample, cost effective meal solutions during their shelter stay. The position includes meal prep, serving clients, cleaning, event meal prep as directed, ensuring all health and safety regulations are met to the highest standards, and due diligence in supporting clients with special dietary needs who are accessing shelter.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- Preferred diploma in food service/hospitality; or an equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed appropriate.
- Maintains a current Safe Food Handler Certificate
- Minimum one year job related experience in food preparation or service
- Fully Vaccinated (2 doses) against COVID-19

The following duties outline the requirements of the Food Service Worker position; all bullet point items noted are directly used in instances of performance evaluation.

**HUMAN RESOURCES**
- Understand and adhere to contents of the Human Resource and Employee Orientation Manuals
- Participate in scheduled kitchen staff/team meetings and any scheduled training programs

**CLIENT CONTACT**
- Work to resolve any client concerns amicably, referencing client concerns to the Food Service Coordinator.
- Ensure any noted allergy needs are responded to appropriately
- Maintain professional boundaries with all service users in adherence with provided training on “ethical boundaries with clients”.
- Immediately identify to the Food Service Program Coordinator any client concerns that present issues of ethics or boundaries.

**KITCHEN DUTIES/ADMINISTRATIVE**
- Adhere to all Canada Food Guidelines in menu planning
- Prepare all lunch and dinner meals per the menu
- Ensure adequate daily breakfast and school lunch items are left for the following day and labelled for staff.
- Ensure cleanliness of all kitchen area and equipment daily and per kitchen cleaning schedule.
- Ensure all fridge and freezer items are properly stored, labelled, used and disposed of according to Safe Food Handling Guidelines.
- Provide availability to Food Service Coordinator upon request for upcoming scheduling.
- Other duties as assigned/applicable to the position as outlined above
