Operating on a multi-site property, WAA is responsible for airport operations, security, facilities, parking, ground transportation and communications.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Airfield Services, the Airfield Labourer will be responsible for seasonal clean up in/around the Terminal building from pedestrian walkways, emergency exit doors, stairwells, and airside machinery. The Airfield Labourer assists in providing a safe environment for aircraft, the travelling public and cargo at our 24-hour operation.
**Responsibilities include**:

- Removal of snow and ice from Airside bridge machinery, light fixtures, signage, pedestrian walkways and exits using a shovel, push snow blower, push sweeper and light duty equipment.
- Application of ice control products and gravel as appropriate.
- Operation of snow blower and skid steer as required.
- Assists in shop clean up and vehicle maintenance tasks.
- Assisting with grass cutting and vegetation maintenance using push mowers, weed wacker and light equipment.
- Emptying of FOD bins.
- Conducting water sampling.
- Assisting painting crew and maintenance crew.
- Assisting with pavement repairs as required (cold / hot patching on asphalt and / or concrete surfaces);
- Selective airfield vehicle escorting; and
- Exposure to environmental conditions of snow, wind, rain, and hot/cold temperatures, 50% of workday.

**Selection Criteria include**:

- Must provide driver’s abstract and have a valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement driver’s license desirable).
- Ability to acquire and maintain Airport Vehicle Operator Permit “D/A” (AVOP);
- Ability to acquire and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card.
- Experience/knowledge of airport operations considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Physically able to perform manual labour as required (lifting/pushing weight up to 50lbs, walking and shoveling snow and/or gravel as required).
- Must be able to work in varied environmental conditions independently as well as within a team environment.
- 1-2 years’ experience in the operation of snow removal and ice control equipment would be an asset.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Proven attendance and reliability.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Experience using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office with the ability to prepare basic reports.
- Experience operating heavy duty equipment would be considered an asset.
- Ability to work shift work in a 24/7 environment; and
- Minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent.
