Remote, Canada Labour Market Information Council Full time

**Position Profile**

**Position Title**: Researcher

**Reports To**: Director of Research and Stakeholder Engagement

**Organization**: Labour Market Information Council

**Location**: Anywhere in Canada

**About the Labour Market Information Council**

The Labour Market Information Council (LMIC) is a not-for-profit organization established to identify and implement pan-Canadian priorities to address the need for more consistent and accessible labour market information for Canadians.

Our efforts are driven by strong collaborations with our partners in federal, provincial and territorial governments, intermediary organizations (for example, career service providers) and academic researchers.

As a dynamic, public-facing organization, LMIC offers a flexible and motivating work environment that supports excellence and rewards innovation and creative work that pushes us further.

**The position**

LMIC is looking for a **Researcher** with well-honed research, writing, project management and critical thinking skills. The **Researcher **will contribute to a variety of labour market-related projects that may involve interpreting linkages between education systems and LMI, tracking green economy jobs, and identifying provincial and territorial responses to labour and skills shortages.

The writing component of the position includes the ability to communicate complex concepts to a broad audience and to shape the content of written work to specific targeted audiences. Being able to do so in both official languages is a key asset.

The project management component of the position includes establishing project scope, setting and meeting timelines, and communicating regularly with the project team to identify changing needs and risks. In addition, many LMIC projects involve coordinating with external partners from the government, research and non-profit sectors.

The critical thinking component of the position includes the ability to parse a variety of interrelated concepts (such as various competing and overlapping definitions of “green jobs”) and establish clear, logical solutions for producing better labour market information.

**Work requirements**
- Assist with the development of research methodologies and implement research activities (such as surveys, focus groups and secondary research) for internal and external projects.
- Liaise with other researchers and work with external data sources (such as Statistics Canada) and relevant bodies in the labour market information system to collect information and/or to keep current with the latest initiatives.
- Work both independently and collaboratively to write reports, articles or blogs.
- Lead and participate in lessons-learned exercises and project retrospectives.
- Plan, co-design and carry out joint projects in a variety of areas related to a broad spectrum of labour market information distribution.
- Generate and use innovative approaches for developing new and better labour market information, particularly as it relates to skills and other work requirements.
- Manage and maintain external relationships with partners on an ongoing basis.
- Effectively collaborate with other researchers and economists and the LMIC Communications team to ensure the alignment of audience, strategy, deadlines, and content for all deliverables, including reports, data visualizations, and presentations.
- React quickly to changing organizational needs.
- Provide recommendations for improving research methods, research tools and information products to ensure excellence.

**Qualifications and knowledge domains**
- Excellent writing, analytical and research skills are essential.
- A master’s degree in a social science or closely related field is desired. Other combinations of education and work experience will be considered.
- Experience preparing lessons-learned documents and project retrospectives.
- Experience conducting policy-relevant qualitative and mixed-methods research.
- Knowledge of labour economics and labour market policies in Canada.
- Experience writing for external audiences.
- Advanced writing and verbal communication skills in English.

Assets
- Experience working with statistical programming languages, such as R.
- Familiarity with the labour market information system and its key players.
- Knowledge of one or more web-based collaboration tools, such as Slack, Miro or Jamboard.
- Bilingualism in both official languages.
