An exciting opportunity exists within the Finance team for a Capital Assets Manager. This is a leadership role that is responsible and accountable for providing strong financial governance for the assets of a large and complex organization. You will be responsible for providing direction, leadership, and organization of activities within the Finance department in support of the vision, mission, and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The Manager, Capital Assets leads a team of Senior Financial Analysts, Financial Analysts and Administrative Support staff, and provides leadership, support, and expert counsel to direct reports on financial standards and controls. This position requires interaction with many different areas of the organization, and therefore requires a client focused individual with the ability to create strong partnerships with key stakeholders. This role requires expertise on all aspects of accounting for capital assets, including Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO), and is the key contact on any changes to existing processes that affect these areas, including numerous project initiatives.

**Description**:
The Manager, Capital Assets is responsible for a dynamic department within finance with responsibility over all tangible capital assets accounting, validation of that information and related reporting. Key responsibilities include: Staff Resource management - providing leadership, planning and direction to Capital Asset staff through expert advice, interpretation of policies and procedures, and resolution of issues relating to daily operating activities. This includes coordination and allocation of workload assignments, managing staff performance, ensuring all deadlines are met, supporting departmental and individual goal setting and review of staff performance. Daily operations - oversee operations to ensure quality, reliability, and timeliness of information. Project Management - as AHS is continually looking for ways to improve, a key component of the position is participation in organizational projects involving integration of financial systems, process improvements and development of relevant financial policies and procedures as they relate to capital assets, including automation and system integration opportunities. Strategic Planning and compliance - set annual goals for the Capital Assets department, and work with staff on individual goal setting. Evaluate departmental policies, procedures and internal controls and develop and implement changes where necessary. This includes acting as liaison in developing interdepartmental policies and procedures to ensure areas with a financial impact incorporate the necessary financial requirements.

**Required Qualifications**:
Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration or similar is required. Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent). Health care accounting experience, specifically as it applies to capital accounting under Public Sector Accounting Standards, and in a supervisory role. Minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility in a financial accounting role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Proven experience with managing staff and deliverables with tight deadlines. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn from an experienced team and to create an environment of collaboration, sharing and learning. Ability to develop and maintain effective collaborative working relationships within Finance, the external auditors, and other internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
