Job Summary
The incumbent is responsible for overseeing a designated territory. Moreover, the incumbent is accountable for all Signals and Communications (SandC) maintenance and installation programs, signal systems, inspection activities, and management of critical voice and data communication systems.
Main Responsibilities
Management
- Manage assigned personnel to ensure SandC communications work is performed with CN's and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards, and in conjunction of applicable collective bargaining agreements
- Direct supervisors, recommend appropriate corrective actions to resolve performance issues, as well as respond to and resolve grievances
- Build safety compliance and improve safety results through efficiency testing and safety walkabouts
- Provide positive and constructive feedback as well as coaching
- Plan, implement, and manage Capital projects to ensure execution of the plan within CN and FRA standards
- Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with Transportation and Mechanical to determine cause and future prevention
Working Conditions
The role involves shift work which includes irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays and a combination of office work and working outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. The incumbent must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, meet deadlines, interface with senior management, and respond to unexpected or emergency situations. This position requires regular travel (40%) for company business, at times without advance notice.
Experience
Signals and Communications
- Minimum 7 years of experience in SandC
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a SandC supervisory role
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
Education/Certification/Designation
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
- 2-year Technical Degree*
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field*
