Join our team at the Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo and grow your experience at one of the most unique sites in Calgary The Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo is seeking a full time Building Technician who will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all HVAC systems & other mechanical systems in the Calgary Zoo.
Ensures buildings, structures, and facilities are fully functional and operating safely and efficiently.
Carries out daily building maintenance tasks in a timely, efficient and safe manner.
Maintains and troubleshoots mechanical and control systems as required.
Works with the Zoo’s building automation and control systems – Metasys and RCK Controls.
Monitors and maintains animal life support systems.
Provides regular servicing of the Zoo’s commercial kitchen equipment.
Provides on-call service in accordance with policies and procedures in order to ensure 24/7 operation of all critical systems.
Schedules work with contractors as required to maintain mechanical systems.
Purchases materials as required from suppliers as per zoo's procurement policy.
Additional training that may be required and provided by the Zoo includes; WHMIS, workforce orientation, vehicle operator training, zoonotic disease awareness, skid steer training, respiratory protection, pest control, ozone awareness training, lock out/tag out, hazard assessment & control, forklift training, fire extinguisher training, fall protection, confined space, Code Adam, boom lift training, asbestos/mold training and transportation of dangerous goods.
Minimum of 5 years Building Operations experience.
Experience with Building Management softwares and Preventive Maintenance systems required.
Proven experience with heating plants, HVAC, water filtration, electricity, pneumatics, hydraulics, controls, chillers, ozone generation, hydronics and fire alarm systems.
Experience maintaining commercial kitchen equipment is an asset.
Customer service focus required.

~8-hour shifts, weekends and a weekly "On-Call" rotational schedule are part of the normal work schedule, day shifts only.
~ Overtime as required.
~ The Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
