About This Opportunity
Approximately 40% of the world's mobile traffic is carried through an Ericsson network. Our 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions are already connecting billions of devices, and we are actively shaping the evolution toward 6G. Our L1 Software Development team in RCE RAN Performance designs and implements Physical Layer baseband functions - the signal-processing engine at the heart of 5G.
Grow with us
We are looking for a junior software developer with an interest in high-performance embedded software, low-level programming, and cloud-ready systems. Our team works on two Ericsson products: a purpose-built multi-core ASIC and a newly deployed cloud-based Radio Access Network. Our mission is to develop high-quality L1 features that support our customers' growth and to advance the product's future through modern technology, cloud-native architectures, and continuous innovation. You will join a collaborative, international team working closely with global RAN and platform experts to deliver robust, high-performing software.
What you will do
- Design, develop, and test L1 software components on Ericsson's 5G processing platform and related cloud/COTS environments.
- Implement and enhance Physical Layer baseband features across deployment scenarios and frequency bands defined by 3GPP.
- Perform continuous analysis, clarify requirements, and contribute to technical solutions that balance performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Integrate new software modules and algorithms in both manual and highly automated environments, and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Apply real-time software development practices and knowledge of wireless communication protocols (e.g., NR/5G, LTE, WCDMA, WLAN).
- Participate in code reviews, inspections, and design discussions to maintain high software quality standards.
- Develop and maintain test coverage to ensure new changes do not degrade existing functionality.
- Explore cloud-native platforms and optimize L1 software for containerized and virtualized environments.
- Use AI/ML tools and techniques where appropriate to accelerate development or enable intelligent automation.
- Contribute to agile ways of working, including sprint planning, estimation, and continuous improvement activities.
- Document system analysis, software designs, and test plans in line with internal standards.
What you will do:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Communications Systems, AI/ML, or a related field.
- 0–4 years of professional experience in a relevant domain.
- 1+ years of experience with embedded software, low-level programming, and cloud-ready systems.
- 1+ years of experience with C/C++, with a focus on embedded or systems-level software.
- Experience with real-time or concurrent software development for embedded systems.
- Experience with wireless communication fundamentals such as quadrature modulation, channel coding, OFDMA, and receiver theory.
- Experience developing L1 software for major wireless standards (e.g., NR, LTE, WCDMA, WiMAX, WLAN).
- Familiarity with a Linux development environment.
- Experience with software configuration and delivery tools such as Git, Gerrit, and Jenkins (or similar).
- Awareness of cloud concepts and platforms, with an interest in building and optimizing cloud-native solutions.
- Curiosity about how AI and machine learning can be applied to software development and wireless systems.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with a methodical approach to debugging and problem-solving.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative approach, with comfort working in a diverse, international, multi-site team.
- Adaptability and a sense of ownership: able to work in a fast-paced agile environment, respond to changing priorities, and take responsibility for delivering high-quality results.
- An interest in how 5G/6G networks work and a desire to explore the technical details.
