Location: Lake Country Website: Email: info@interiordams.com Salary Range: $115,000-$145,000 About Us Interior Dams Incorporated is a growing, employee-owned engineering company that specializes in water resources, dam safety, dike management, and hazard mitigation (flood, mud/debris flows, etc). Presently, our team consists of ten members (8 full-time members, one contract technologist, and one part-time admin staff) and an established network of specialized professionals who provide niche expert services in various disciplines. As of January 2026, up to four members will be joining our team Our firm provides the highest level of service and almost all of our business is from repeat clients, multi-year contracts, or direct award. Our clientele consists of mainly Federal, Provincial, First Nation, municipal, and district dam and dike owners; however, our firm also provides niche specialized services to private industry, including mines, and ranches. Responsibilities We are seeking a person to join our team that can fulfill the role of Geotechnical Engineer. The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for their own geotechnical engineering projects and will have the support of senior staff and engineering support of EITs and lab technicians. You will report to and be supported by the principal engineer and senior geotechnical engineer in the office. The role will be approximately 90-95% in the office (including home office) and 5-10% in the field. You will be required to complete the following tasks: Act as the lead or supporting geotechnical engineer on various projects types Design new embankment dams in alignment with current regulatory standards and best practices Plan and monitor geotechnical investigations (test pitting, drilling, CPT, etc.) Conduct geotechnical analysis, modelling, and design for a wide range of geotechnical and water resource projects (using software that may including RS2, Slide2, Dips, Rocfall2, Settle3, PIX4D, etc.) Conduct construction field review Conduct and/or delegate in-field geotechnical testing as may be required and conduct quality assurance/control work (may require the planning and setup of a temporary on-site geotechnical testing facility to be staffed and operated by you and/or others under your direction) Provide other general engineering work that may be related to the work above (such as inspection, emergency support, etc.) Analyze existing embankment dams for susceptibility to internal erosion, liquefaction, and slope instability Conduct geotechnical assessment work and support dam safety reviews Project work typically consists of a mix of fieldwork and in-office/in-lab work for most of the summer, with desktop work in the winter and early spring. Fall is typically our busiest field season, with several construction projects on the go between August and November. Spring often consists of some emergency work and a mixed bag of project start-ups and winter project wrap-ups. Minimum qualifications: Must be resourceful, self-motivated, independent and be a licensed geotechnical engineer in Canada with eligibility to be registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. Must have at least 5 years of geotechnical practice experience, with at least 3 years of practice experience in Canada (preferably in dams, slope stability, foundation characterization, etc.). Must have demonstrated on-site geotechnical construction or resident engineering (field review) experience. Be willing to travel and work on-site (when projects go to construction, typically up to 5 days per month in the summer and possibly more in the fall, all other days in the office, lab or at home). Have strong communication skills and be comfortable/able to liaison with clients, contractors, and local, provincial, and federal government. Have a BC Class 5 driver's license and your own transportation to and from work vehicle (vehicles provided from office location). Additional requirements Someone who is seeking to establish a long-term career in our fast-growing company Knowledge of Water Sustainability Act, Dam Safety Regulation, Dike Maintenance Act, and related acts, regulations, and design guidance Experience with survey equipment, drones, and bathymetric surveys Mechanically inclined Be able to self-teach from textbooks, online resources, technical bulletins, etc. Have above average GPA in undergraduate or post-graduate education Someone with experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or other hydrological or hydraulic modelling suites would be an asset Ability to use QGIS to manipulate data and create figures for reports or other engineering work Compensation Starting rate of approximately $55-70/hr based on a 40-hour work week (starting rate will depend entirely on education, experience, capabilities, etc). For senior engineers specialization in dams and experience in BC, higher salary ranges are negotiable. Work environment At home, in-office/remote, in-field, and possibly in-laboratory (the professional services office is located in downtown Lake Country, BC, the physical geotechnical laboratory is located in Lake Country, BC near Carrs Landing, BC). If you live in Vernon or Kelowna, commute is short as you are typically going against traffic. As you will also be able to set your own work schedule, you can offset your travel time to optimize your commute. Contract will also be setup to allow for overtime.
