One of those programs is MetaLingo — our 3D virtual learning platform where children ages 2–15 connect as avatars to learn, explore, and build confidence together.

Funded by the Government of Canada, MetaLingo brings tutoring into an interactive virtual environment. As an Online Instructor, you’ll be one of the people who brings that experience to life by creating a welcoming and engaging space where students can learn and participate.

As an Online Instructor, you will teach one or more of the following subjects: English, French, Math.

You will work with small groups of students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 9, depending on your subject skills and preferences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver dynamic, engaging, and age-appropriate lessons in French, English, or Math
  • Adapt lessons to meet the diverse needs and learning levels of students
  • Foster confidence, curiosity, and positive learning habits
  • Encourage collaboration and participation in a virtual classroom setting
  • Manage lesson flow, timing, and online tools efficiently
  • Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating learning environment
  • Provide feedback on the MetaLingo platform to help improve its functionality and user experience
  • Identify and report bugs or technical issues promptly to the development team
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students and internal staff

What We’re Looking For

  • At least one year of experience teaching or tutoring K–12 students in a school, online, community, or similar setting
  • Strong knowledge of at least one of the following subject areas: French, English, or Math
  • Comfortable teaching and engaging small groups of students in an online environment
  • Strong communication skills and a patient, positive, and encouraging teaching style
  • Comfortable learning and navigating digital platforms, including video conferencing, screen sharing, and virtual classroom tools
  • Strong foundational technical proficiency and confidence learning and navigating new digital platforms and tools
  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage lesson timing, student participation, and basic administrative responsibilities
  • Able to maintain consistent weekly availability throughout the school year

  • Must reside in Canada, with flexibility to collaborate with team members across multiple provinces and time zones
  • As this role involves working directly with children and youth, successful candidates will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check or equivalent background screening, as applicable in their province or territory, as a condition of employment.

Nice To Have

  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English
  • Studies or training in education, languages, psychology, child development, or a related field
  • Previous experience teaching or tutoring online in an online environment
  • Experience working with students across different ages, learning needs, or educational backgrounds

Schedule and Flexibility

Live tutoring sessions take place Monday to Thursday between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM Eastern Time (ET). Online Instructors must be available for a minimum of 8 hours per week, including availability during these core program hours.

Depending on program needs and your availability, the role may provide up to 20 hours per week. Additional hours may include training/onboarding, team meetings, administrative responsibilities, and other program-related work outside of live tutoring sessions.
