Barr is seeking an electrical engineer to join our Canadian team. In this hybrid role, you will support the electrical group, working as part of multidisciplinary project teams to provide electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. This person will also be responsible for managing projects, coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff, providing technical leadership, managing teams to meet clients' needs, and conducting business development activities. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.
They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their technical ability and project management expertise for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients.
Technical knowledge: design and analysis will include preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations as well as the design of power and controls from the ground up. The work will be related to industrial processing facilities, power plants, mining facilities, and municipal water and wastewater facilities.
Project management: proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budget. Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing projects. Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients.
Collaborate across disciplines to align technical approaches with client goals while contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture.
A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. Travel expectation: up to 10-15 percent domestic fieldwork.
Work environment: ability to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites.
Education:
bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Experience:
at least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above. Experience in an industrial production environment such as mining and/or minerals processing, power plants, petroleum refining, or chemical production facilities. Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above. Software: Microsoft Office. Experience with AutoCAD. ~ Demonstrated project organization and management skills. ~ Experience with SKM Power Tools or E-Tap software for coordination and arc flash studies. ~ Experience with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming software. ~ Experience with start-up/commissioning of industrial projects. Anticipated range of 110,000
- 140,000 CAD annually.
