Provincial Infection Prevention and Control Manager (Nurse Manager)
Reporting to the Director of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), this position provides leadership and direction to the Health PEI provincial integrated Infection Prevention and Control Program and its team of Infection Prevention and Control Professionals (ICPs). Provides best practice/evidence-based advice, assistance, and infection prevention control professional navigation for all Health PEI facility leaders and the Medical Microbiologist in areas of prevention, control, investigation, surveillance and management of infectious disease and outbreaks. This position is also responsible for the implementation of a consistent, quality infection prevention and control service for all Health PEI programs and services.
Works strategically with partners and stakeholders to provide an effective infection control program governance model.
Leads, communicates and coordinates the development of shared objectives regarding infection control prevention measures to ensure accountability.
Leads the IPAC Team by providing standardized, evidence-based guidance and recommendations to frontline ICPs.
Participates in pertinent local, regional, and national professional organizations (ie. IPAC Canada) and participates in the activities of the Provincial IPAC Committees.
Leads ongoing planning and facilitates the development of provincial clinical practice guidelines that are aligned with national, and Accreditation Canada Standards related to IPAC.
In collaboration with the Director, analyzes and synthesizes information from other jurisdictions regarding evidence based best practice and makes recommendations to steering committees, quality teams, ICPs and other health care providers as appropriate.
Formulates and oversees the revision of written policies, protocols, treatment techniques and work procedures, which impact upon infection prevention and control.
Communicates effectively on strategic issues to stakeholders including front line staff and site Administration as required through email correspondence, memos and SBAR documents including ensuring appropriate and sufficient key stakeholder involvement.
Represents the HPEI IPAC Program as a partner in maintenance and evaluation of existing programs as well as the introduction of advanced practice in IPAC.
Assists with preparing SBARs proposals, correspondence, policy statements, reports, briefing notes, funding submissions and responses to Treasury Board, Executive Council Memos on relevant IPC matters as required.
Assists in identifying and tracing possible sources of infection, initiates or proposes preventive and corrective measures including patient/resident placement in both day-to-day issues and cluster/outbreak management.
Collaborates with, and provides liaison to, the Provincial Chief Public Health Office and Public Health services reporting any communicable diseases and related conditions, and to assist with the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
Monitors and ensures compliance with infection control practices through audits and surveillance.
Completes investigations and follow up in work done on file within the Provincial Safety Management System on Patient and Family Experience Feedback and patient safety incidents, including assisting with answering inquiries from HPEI’s Compliments and Complaints website.
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree in a related area is an asset.
IPAC recognized Infection Prevention and Control Course required.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with HPEI staff, health professionals, government employees of various departments, and others within and outside the health system.
Must have extensive organizational, interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, problem solving, conflict resolution, and excellent oral and writing communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to collect and analyze data based on evidence-based approaches.
Ability to undertake research and analysis of the program using a variety of resources and research methods including project management.
Experience and proficiency in the use of computer programs and software required.
Previous experience in supervisory or management roles is an asset.
Experience and/or education in Infection Control is an asset.
Experience and/or education in Occupational Health Nursing is an asset.
Experience and/or education in Adult Education is an asset.

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 Hours Bi-Weekly / Evening and Weekend Work May Be Required
