Reporting to the Purchaser/Production Manager, the Steel Fitter is responsible for will fabricating, assembling, and installing steel or other metal components according to specific specifications, and blueprints. The Steel Fitter will work closely with welders, ironworkers, and supervisors to ensure accurate and efficient installation of steel structures.
Ensure accurate layout, alignment, and installation
Work collaboratively with welders, ironworkers, and site leadership to complete project tasks
Maintain compliance with all safety standards and site procedures
Study engineering drawings and blueprints, determine the materials required, and plan the sequence of tasks to cut metal most efficiently
Rig, hoist and move materials to storage areas or within worksite
Assemble and fit metal sections and plates to form complete units or subunits using tack welding, bolting, riveting or other methods
Set up and operate various heavy-duty metal-working machines such as brake presses, shears, cutting torches, grinders and drills, including computer numerical control (CNC) equipment, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or otherwise form heavy-metal components
Minimum 3 years of experience in steel fitting, ironworking, or structural installation
Strong understanding of structural steel components and fitting techniques
Experience operating or assisting with rigging and hoisting
The job requires manual handling of materials, standing for long periods, bending, and twisting
