We are seeking an experienced Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong exposure to Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and capital markets operations. The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening AML frameworks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing domain expertise across ETF products and related financial transactions.
Key Responsibilities
AML & Compliance Expertise
Act as the primary AML SME for ETF products, ensuring alignment with global AML/CTF regulations, including FINTRAC, FATF, SEC, FCA, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
Leverage strong Business Systems Analyst (BSA) experience within the AML domain to support compliance initiatives and system enhancements.
Utilize advanced SQL skills, including writing complex queries and stored procedures, to support data analysis, monitoring, and investigations.
Provide expertise in Know Your Customer (KYC), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) processes, particularly for ETFs and institutional clients.
Support AML risk assessments related to fund flows, trading activities, and investor structures.
Identify, investigate, and elevate suspicious transactions, patterns, and red flags involving ETF subscriptions, redemptions, and trading activities.
Collaborate with Compliance, Legal, Risk, and Operations teams to ensure adherence to AML policies and regulatory requirements.
ETF Domain Expertise
Demonstrate deep understanding of the ETF lifecycle, including creation and redemption processes, Authorized Participants (APs), and market makers.
Analyze ETF transaction flows, liquidity patterns, and investor behaviors to identify potential AML risks.
Support onboarding and ongoing monitoring of institutional clients, brokers, and intermediaries involved in ETF operations.
Monitoring & Investigations
Lead or support transaction monitoring and alert investigations related to ETF and capital markets activities.
Develop, enhance, and optimize AML monitoring scenarios, detection rules, and financial crime typologies relevant to ETFs and capital markets.
Conduct complex investigations and prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) as required.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with technology teams to enhance AML systems, surveillance tools, and monitoring capabilities.
Work closely with front-office, middle-office, and operations teams to strengthen AML controls and processes.
Provide guidance, training, and subject matter expertise on AML practices specific to ETFs and capital markets.
Regulatory & Audit Support
Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
Stay current on evolving AML regulations, ETF regulatory requirements, and emerging financial crime risks.
Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of AML policies, procedures, and control frameworks.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Law, or a related discipline.
7+ years of AML and compliance experience within capital markets, asset management, or financial services.
Strong hands-on Business Systems Analyst (BSA) experience within the AML domain.
5-6 years of hands-on SQL experience, including complex queries, data analysis, and stored procedures.
Proven experience working with ETF products, exchange-traded instruments, or capital markets operations.
Strong knowledge of:
AML/CTF regulations and global compliance frameworks (FINTRAC, FATF, and related regulations)
KYC, CDD, and EDD processes
Trade surveillance and transaction monitoring systems
Experience conducting AML investigations and preparing SAR/STR filings.
Professional certifications such as CAMS, CFA, or equivalent are highly preferred.
Preferred Skills
Hands-on experience with AML technology platforms such as Actimize, Fircosoft, SAS AML, or similar solutions.
Understanding of market abuse, insider trading, and broader financial crime risks within ETFs and capital markets.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical business controls, monitoring rules, and system enhancements.
Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
