Join Our Team: Hiring an Engine Technician – Pro Spec Diesel
Engine Technician – Full Time
We are seeking an experienced Engine Technician who can accurately diagnose, repair, and rebuild heavy-duty diesel engines. This position requires strong fault-code/electrical diagnostics, mechanical troubleshooting, precision overhaul skills and experience with CAT, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and PACCAR engine platforms. The successful candidate will follow Pro Spec Diesel engine standards and procedures, maintain complete repair documentation, and help mentor developing technicians. We are Red Deer’s leading heavy-duty truck and trailer repair shop. We provide comprehensive heavy-duty truck and trailer repair services, including CVIP inspections, full equipment maintenance, major overhauls, performance tuning, and mobile repair services.
Our mission is to deliver top-quality repairs with efficient turnaround, earning customer trust every time.
We believe in helping every team member reach their personal, professional, and financial goals through the work we do together.
Our core values are the backbone of our business and guide our hiring process: we take ownership, move with urgency, perform with precision, support our team, deliver results, commit to continuous improvement, and operate with integrity.
Engine faults are diagnosed accurately using OEM information, scan tools, testing procedures, and sound mechanical judgment.
Work is completed efficiently, documented clearly, and verified before the unit is returned to service.
Developing technicians receive patient, practical mentoring that improves their technical ability and workmanship.
Customers receive dependable repairs that protect uptime, reduce repeat failures, and build long-term trust.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
Perform complete engine repairs, in-frame overhauls, out-of-frame rebuilds, component replacement, setup, and final verification.
Follow Pro Spec Diesel standards for engine disassembly, inspection, measuring, cleaning, documentation, assembly, torque procedures, and quality control.
Use OEM service information, wiring diagrams, diagnostic software, pressure testing, electrical testing, and mechanical testing to identify root causes.
Complete accurate technician stories, inspection findings, measurements, photos, parts requirements, and repair recommendations in the shop management system.
Communicate repair progress, additional findings, parts needs, and delays clearly to the Foreman or Service Manager.
Protect customer uptime by working with urgency while never sacrificing safety, accuracy, cleanliness, or workmanship.
Perform post-repair checks, start-up procedures, fluid verification, leak inspections, regeneration or road testing, and final confirmation as required.
Mentor apprentices and other technicians by explaining diagnostic reasoning, demonstrating correct procedures, and reinforcing company standards.
Maintain organized tooling, clean engine work areas, properly labelled components, and contamination-control practices throughout each repair.
Consistently complete company-supplied and OEM training to maintain current knowledge and support long-term technical growth.
Advanced diesel engine diagnostic and mechanical troubleshooting ability.
Strong knowledge of electronic engine controls, fuel systems, air-management systems, emissions systems, lubrication, cooling, and base-engine components.
Ability to interpret fault codes, schematics, OEM troubleshooting trees, specifications, measurements, and test results.
Precision-focused workmanship with strong attention to cleanliness, component protection, torque values, and assembly procedures.
Ability to identify root causes rather than replacing parts without proper testing and verification.
Clear communication with technicians, leadership, parts staff, and service personnel.
Willingness and ability to mentor technicians without compromising personal accountability or repair quality.
Commitment to safety, customer uptime, teamwork, continuous learning, and company standards.
Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Mechanic, or equivalent recognized trade certification preferred.
Demonstrated heavy-duty diesel engine experience, including both electronic diagnostics and internal engine repair or rebuilding.
